Just a quick post to say that I have returned from the Land of Kawaii (or in essence Japan). After a whole month of being in Japan everything back home seems so different. Heck it even feels like that my PC isn’t my PC. So now that I have returned I have a day or two before heading back to the daily grind of working life so hopefully I can unpack everything soon and continue on with more Japan posts. I’m also waiting for a few more packages to arrive as well. But for the time being, I need some rest.

Published by August 27th, 2008 in Anime Blogs, Everyday Life, Japan and Photography. 9 Comments 978 ViewsThere is so much more that I want to see around Kyoto, but alas it was the final full day of us being in Kyoto. Due to a rather intense day of walking from Day 2, we decided to take it a little easier this time and the first place we headed to was Kinkakuji (or what is known as the Golden Temple). Comiket Loot Preview
Published by August 19th, 2008 in Anime Blogs, Conventions & Events, Everyday Life, Japan, Merchandise and Miscellaneous. 13 Comments 1,004 ViewsJust to let some of you readers know, the last few posts have been ones that I had wrote up about a week ago and I am actually in Tokyo right now. Anyway this post is just an update on the merchandise that I have bought for Comiket74 that had just past.

This pile of loot is only a small portion of the things that I bought. I had placed bags within bags in order to carry less bags and to save space in the actual hotel room. Also not everything is displayed in this photo. But at least this gives you a small preview of what I bought. But here are some highlights of my Comiket74 experience:
- Friday I lined up at 6am with friends.
- Saturday was the hottest day of them all.
- CalorieMates are terrible.
- Gaijin teleporting is the way to go.
- Sunday I lined up at 6am, but went solo (thankfully it was an overcast day).
- I waited in Nanao Naru’s line for 1 hour and 10 mins, then got jipped from special items as I was only 20 people from actually acquiring it.
- Since I got jipped, I bought two copies of Nanao Naru’s latest work to make the wait worth it.
- I bought quite a bit of ero-doujins on a non-ero day.
- My feet aren’t dead compared to Wonderfest.
- And I spent about ¥174,200 total expenditure on goods and doujins over the three days (if my calculations are correct).
Although this is all a preview, the merchandise post won’t come until I get back to Australia as most of the items were shipped back today. I won’t bother writing post about Comiket itself as I didn’t take that many pictures. Nor did I take photos of cosplayers. But check out coverage by others who attended:
- Koi Aichaku: Day 1, Day 2, Day 3
- Nozomi: Comiket74 - Cosplay
- Ota desho: Comiket 08 Summer - Cosplay Day 2
The start of the Hatsune Miku fandom
Published by August 16th, 2008 in Anime Blogs, Everyday Life, Japan and Merchandise. 9 Comments 1,052 ViewsHatsune Miku is a well known character and I have been a small fan of her’s for a while. However there hasn’t been a lot of merchandise available for online ordering so the fandom hasn’t grown all that much. However after visiting Ebisu-cho in Osaka, that has changed quite a bit. Now many of you know about my Da Capo fandom and how much I’m willing to spend. Well this fandom takes it a little further.

What you see in the photo above is a Comiket exclusive item from 2007. Not sure which Comiket as I haven’t looked at it properly but the items above are a pillow cover with the design by CARNELIAN, and small illustration booklet and a Hatsune Miku tea cup. Really I have to blame my friend Roobar for spotting this one for me as the price tag was one thing that was holding me back on this. I held off on the first time we went, but I gave in and bought it. Pretty much this had costed me ¥21,000 (roghly $210 AUD) for all three items.
So the Hatsune Mike fandom starts off with a bang and I’m sure there’ll be more hatsune Miku purchases throughout this trip. Though if I keep making purchases like this, I fear for my wallet.
Osaka Day 3 and Osaka Castle
Published by August 14th, 2008 in Anime Blogs, Everyday Life, Japan, Miscellaneous and Photography. 7 Comments 842 ViewsOne of the things about coming to Osaka was to check out some of the sites, and one of the places I wanted to visit was Osaka Castle. This was our next place to stop by for Osaka as I really didn’t get time to plan out an itinerary for Osaka since I knew so little about it. Anyway hit the jump to read on about our final day in Osaka.
