SMASH! 2009 Merchandise

OK so it’s been a while since SMASH! 2009 but recently I’ve been a little pre-occupied with a lot of other things at the moment. Anyway with SMASH! I was sure that I wasn’t going to buy anything given that I had done most of my convention shopping during Supanova a few months ago. Given that I am unemployed I thought that was to be true, but alas that kind of thing never goes to plan. I suppose in these times it’s good and bad to have friends who share the same passion in buying merchandise, but I’ll let you be the judge of that once you see my merchandise purchases.

Supanova Sydney 09 - Merchandise Purchases

Whenever I attend a convention, I try to place a budget on how much I should spend there. Over the years I have never ever met that expectation, and once again this year at Supanova was no exception. I came close to my set budget, but with the persuasion of friends Roobar and Blox, I caved in. Yes I am a weak man. Though do I regret on giving in so easily? Well sort of, but that is a different issue. Read on to see what goodies I bought from Supanova Sydney 2009.

planetarian Tapestries

The kinetic novel planetarian is probably something I will always remember as one of the best short stories I’ve ever read. It was certainly a great hit from Key but although it has garnered such success, there really isn’t all that much merchandise out there for it. Well merchandise that is easily obtainable. However browsing Hobby Search randomly one day I came across some very nice planetarian tapestries and they arrived last week:

Figure Gallery: Corticarte Apa Lagranges (Movic)

Wow, it certainly has been a while since I last posted a figure photo shoot. I blame pure laziness for this, but hopefully that can change over the coming weeks as I am on a quest to rekindle my photography skills once again. The figure pile still stands tall but I am determined to get through it one way or another. So starting off we have something that came out a long time ago (like March 2008): Corticarte Apa Lagranges. Hit the jump to see more.

COSPA Otome’s Ribbon & Jacket

As an Da Capo fan, I can’t seem to resist some of the goods that come out from the land of the rising sun. Much like when I bought the Nemu necklace last year. This time around there were two items, which arrived last week, I had a great interest in and they were COSPA’s Otome hooded jacket and COSPA’s Asakura Otome ribbon.

The Dangers of Discounted Manga

No body can resist a sale. The whole idea of being able to purchase something at a fraction less than what it normally is priced at is something that you can’t simply ignore regardless of your financial situation. Including me. Last weekend and the weekend before, Kinokuniya Sydney had a sale on their manga range known as the “Super Awesome Panda Manga Sale” where a selected range of manga was priced at $4.95. The first weekend was also Free Comic Book Day where they had a sale of 20% all manga/comics in stock. This is the result of the two trips to Kinokuniya:

All that of that there came to a grand total of $300. I can honestly say that is the most I’ve ever spent on manga in a month at Kinokuniya. Only the Ai Yori Aoshi and Banner of the Stars volumes were the $4.95 manga. Everything else was priced normally with a few bought during the 20% off sale. The xxxHOLIC volumes I bought for my sister because I’m generous like that. So yes, the dangers of discounted manga. Even though you’re grabbing a whole lot, you won’t know how much it all is until you reach the checkout.

The amusing thing as well is that I probably won’t read through most of this until I’m in the mood to read. So just like my pile of figures, I’ve created a pile of unread manga as well. And I can say that it’s growing rather fast.

James Bond Ultimate DVD Boxset

Back in the good old days, before I discovered the world of the Internet, one of the means of entertainment was television and movies. There certainly has been a lot of movies that have left an everlasting impression upon me and one of them would have to be the James Bond series. Whenever a new one came out to the cinema I would bug my brother to take me (I wasn’t allowed out by myself back in those days) or if one was airing on TV I would always watch it. Since the introduction of DVDs, we’re seeing many movies brought back, and one of them was all of the James Bond movies in the Ultimate DVD Boxset.
