Cars will always be a great interest of mine, and I’m excited to find out that there will be Wangan Midnight movie coming out to Japan in Summer. The story will still be based on the manga where a young man named Asakura Akio who salvages a Datsun Fairlady S30Z with a cursed history known as the “Devil Z”.
Although there currently isn’t a lot of information on the movie just yet apart from the cast list, I’m definitely overjoyed about this. I thought that the Love the Beast movie was going to be my only anticipated movie for 2009 but I guess I was wrong. Knowing that it’s coming in Summer means that its not that far off and it almost makes me want to go to Japan just to watch this. Though since Summer in Japan is still about 2 months away does question the overall quality of the film. Well not that it matters.
Also to note that the Wangan Midnight anime series has finally been completely subbed thanks to the efforts of Kyou no Subs. Shame I never finished blogging about it.

One of the greatest things about the Japan trip was being able to experience new things. However it’s also great to do the same things you do back at home and for me, one of them is driving. Day 2 of the car hire adventure takes me to an even greater adventure and this would more than likely be the highlight of the entire trip. Firstly let me just say that was an epic battle between the three cars. In the earlier stages of the series, the race scenes have been pretty standard since it was mainly the Devil Z and Blackbird versing each other, but with the addition of Kouichi’s GTR and Reina tagging along, this has to be the best race scene I’ve seen so far. The whole sensation of seeing 4 cars racing at speeds over 300km/h is something you can’t get out of Initial D, and heck, I haven’t been this excited for quite a while.

So finally we’re looking into getting the Devil Z fixed, and with Kitami’s connections, there seems to be more than just fixing it. He’s taken the Devil Z to an acquaintance of his, Takaki, who back in his days, was a genius at doing body repair work, and from the looks of things, Kitami wants him to make the Devil Z be able to go upto speeds of 330km/h. At first I thought I heard him saying he wanted to make it 330kgs lighter, which that in itself would be quite a huge task given that the Devil Z is probably as bare as it can be.

Continuing on with some of the Wangan Midnight episodes, this one had taken a rather unusual twist where a lot of the episode was focused on Kouichi and his urges to return to the world of street racing. Well it’s rather obvious since the Devil Z is out of action for the time being and Akio has not much he can do about it, it kind of makes for a nice filler until the Devil Z returns. Anyway Kouichi’s dilemma over whether to return to the streets or stick with his wife is actually pretty crap in my opinion. He should’ve stuck with his wife if he had any common sense, but that sweet bitter taste of being behind the wheel and going at 300km/h is not something you can shake off.

Damn it certainly has been a long time since I last blogged about Wangan Midnight. The last post was WAY back in November, but I certainly haven’t forgotten about the series, I just been somewhat lazy to blog about it that I had to watch this episode again to remember what happened. Not that it’s a bad thing or anything. Anyway resuming from where episode 6 left off, Eriko stole Akio’s Z and decided to drive it to the harbour, hoping to take it to the bottom of the ocean along with her, but Tatsuya managed to ram the Z with his Porsche just in time to save Eriko.

YES! A group has finally decided to pick up Wangan Midnight, so I’m back to my regular scheduled posting of Wangan Midnight. This episode, we finally see Kitami’s role in the series, but we’re also seeing Ishida being more involved now. I had a feeling that Ishida would ask Kitmai to tune his car, despite the stories that he heard about Kitami being the tuner from hell. He probably didn’t think too much of the dangers involved with Kitami’s tuning as he feels that he is going to die soon anyway.
