In every series there are always episodes that feature a side character, this is one of them. But since Hayate no Gotoku has such a vast selection of characters this episode features two of them: Sister Sonia and Yukiji. So for me I like one and the other was really meh that I started to loose interest towards the end. Anyway the first half was Sister Sonia seeing Wataru to confirm her feelings for him. This I remember clearly from the manga as it was a short story that ended amusinly. It also features Saki because I like my maids.

It’s most unfortunate but Hayate now has to leave the Katsura household. I always wished this part in the manga went on for a bit longer and have some drama where Nagi found out Hayate was staying at Hinagiku’s house, but that’s just asking for too much. Also Hinagiku’s mum is really the best, suggesting to Hayate his “chance” to return the favour on Hinagiku’s birthday. It does seem like she wouldn’t mind having a HayatexHinagiku pairing, but that’s probably for her own agenda.

So far this would have to be one of the best episodes of the series, so much Hinagiku x Hayate x Ayumu goodness. There’s always some kind of chemistry between the three of them, and though this is supposed to be a comedy type series, it somewhat fits right in. One of the great things about this episode is that we see Hinagiku act more casually whenever she is with Hayate and that it’s the girlish side to her, not the President side. Though when the topic of Ayumu pops up, she seems to step into that President role and tries to be responsible. Still I find it amusing when she questioned Hayate who he would take a bath with. Do I really have to choose? Can’t I have them all?

Finally we’re onto the more juicy bits of the Hayate no Gotoku series in terms of Hayate’s relationship with the girls of the series. Of course that being the Hayate x Hinagiku side of things. But before all that, Nagi finally realises the embarrassing moment she had when Hayate saw her naked and didn’t want to see him for a while, thus he is kicked out of the Sanzenin mansion for three days. Still its always amusing to see Hayate’s misfortune with money since it also reflects his bad luck in general. But as always our debt-ridden butler is such a nice guy to give away his money to others.

Normally I’m not much of a Nagi fan, but occasionally she does have her charms. However none of this appeared until the actual end of the episode so most of this episode was spent on Nagi being Nagi, plus an extra. Also I don’t ever recall Ayumu having a brother let alone make an appearance in the manga (I really do have a bad memory don’t I?) and to be in love with Nagi of all people. Still this series is all about quirky randomness so having him appear is a nice change.

Ah the Valentine’s Day arc, this is one to remember as this was when Hinagiku and Ayumu met for the first time. I think the two make great friends despite their different statuses in society as it seems that they understand each other, and that they’re not picked on by the other trio council members. However I think it was Hinagiku who made the effort to help out and befriend Ayumu since she’s the more confident one and cool one, and just as Izum said, it’s why she gets Valentine’s chocolate from girls.

One of the things about Hayate no Gotoku that I enjoy a lot is some of the battle scenes. Reading it in the manga is definitely exciting but in an anime, you know it can be exceptionally good. Since Hayate no Gotoku anime is known for a pretty good consistent quality, seeing a fight scene animated just makes it that much more awesome. The bout between Hinagiku and Sonia, even though it was short, was really awesome and makes me wish there was more of it. Alas this series is more about comedy so I doubt we’ll see any prolonged battles throughout the series.
