With the last episode ending with a twist, I was hoping for something dramatic to happen in order for Chihiro to remember Renji, so I’m a little disappointed in which Chihiro had not forgotten about Renji at all. But as the saying goes, it’s not th result that matters, it’s the journey. Renji’s state of depression over Chihiro’s choice to forget him I believe is better than say Hirono’s choice of having to chose between Kei and Miyako, and much more dramatic. But I also believe that Renji’s resolve and the advice that he received had a better effect than Hirono’s as well.

By the end of this episode, I was a little surprised at the turn of events, but it was also expected as we needed some kind of twist to the story in hope to make it through two episodes. So they spent an entire day being lovers and going on a date, yet I think this is a reason why Chihiro kept holding Renji back from reading the ending of the novel. She wanted to enjoy her time with Renji one last time before the time came for her to forget about Renji.

Wow, has there ever been an episode where it was entirely focused on the Hirono x Miyako x Kei side of things? Probably not but this episode was superb in a way that actually wrapped everything up pretty quickly. They were able to wrap up Hirono’s relationship between him and Kei by wanting to go back to a time of when they were enjoying themselves, but also made it concrete that Hirono has chosen Miyako to stay by his side. Although that was pretty obvious since he did end up sleeping with her. Heck they even managed to wrap up Hirono’s choice about his future.

With the sudden breakdown of Chihiro last episode, I was certainly surprised at her speedy recovery throughout this episode. She seemed to go from the hysterical girl 4 years ago and throwing her diary at Renji, to somehow falling in love with him again in what seems to be the span of a day. Is that what Chihiro does every single day when she wakes up? I find it rather hard to believe how she can somehow remain the same type of character that she is if she went from being confused and frustrated to being the calm and cheerful girl that we have seen in the earlier episodes. I can only imagine how much she actually has to read in her diary just to remember all the things from a certain point of time to now.

After a brilliant last episode, we’re now back on track with the story, however this episode focuses once again more on the Chihiro x Renji side of things, but with good reason. In the past episodes, we could only understand the pain of Chihiro’s memory loss through her words and the abstract representations such as her chained inside the circle. But at the very end of this episode, we see the reality, and the truth of Chihiro’s pain. The way that she woke up and started to panic was pretty emotional and it’s not something we’ve been used to seeing. My perception of Chihiro has always been a sensible and mature girl, but that seems to all be a front to hide the truth.

This past Autumn season of anime has somewhat been little dry with anything that makes me enjoy an anime episode SO much, that it’d give me goosebumps. Sure enough there was the Nanaka episode of Da Capo II, but that’s more of my moé sensors going off. No I’m talking about something that hits me much more than just the usual moé doses that I’m so used to, something that makes me appreciate how the story is unfolding and then BAM, hits us with something that is shocking, yet tasteful. And the second half of this episode delivers just that.

Wow, there was actually an episode where there was more screen time for the Hirono x Miyako x Kei story than the Chihiro and Renji side for once. Though I think the contributing factor for this was Kyousuke now being a part of the story. However it is still a battle between Kei and Miyako but at this point in time, it’s too hard to tell who is best suited for him and who has swayed him the most, but my bet is on Miyako.
