Once you have attended Comiket at least once and bought doujinshi, when the next one comes about you want more! Well that’s the case for me and when I found out that Tony Taka was doing a Clannad one for Comiket 75, I knew I wanted one. Though how would I acquire myself a copy? Fortunately a friend of mine had returned to Japan for a short time and decided that he wanted to line up for the T2 line.
What’s included in this pack is what seems to be the usual stuff you get in any pack: pencil board, a copy of the latest doujinshi, phone card, calendar, clear document holder and the bag to carry it all. So many thanks to my friend ACQ and his friends who lined up from midnight in the cold Winter and by the sea.
But this brings about a good question, if you ever went to Japan, would you go out of your way to help purchase items for friends? When I went, I did help some friends acquire items but in the end it felt like such a pain. Of course I had some pretty unreasonable requests as well and other smaller things I which were acceptable. Since I myself know it’s a pain, whenever friends go to Japan I try not to burden them with a list of items but only one or two items.

Still on a roll, No.5 of 7 figures over 7 days. This time we take a trip to the other side of my fandom for moé which is the Visual Arts/Key side of things, but the focus for this post is Clannad. It’s been a while since they released any Clannad figures (the last one I bought was like 2-3 years ago) but with the recent success to the Clannad anime series, it has sparked an influx of merchandise. Despite having my wallet become significantly lighter over the weekend, the merchandise must continue to flow in! Well I finally got myself a Botan (Fujibayashi Kyou’s pet pig from CLANNAD) plushy thanks to Hobby Search having it restocked (I think it’s the third restock). In fact this is actually the first time I used Hobby Search, but comparing to HLJ, there really isn’t much of a difference except Hobby Search only ship by express post. Anyway at least this is one item to cross off my Japan shopping list.
At least Aria-shachou won’t be lonely anymore. I was quite surprised when I took Botan out of the box as he is quite solid and very round. Funnily enough I actually started tossing him around like a football lol. For the time being I face the problem of placing him somewhere as I don’t really have room for plushies. Well I’m sure I’ll work something out. Now that I have a Botan plushy, all I need now is a long purple haired girlfriend.

With the past few episodes being slowish in pace and high in drama, it was time for the usual dose of comedic relief in the form of Mei-chan. The last time she appeared there wasn’t very much in terms of development, even though she is a side character. But this time around, we see the truth face of Mei-chan. Such a sly and scheming junior high school girl, yet she is just what every imouto loving otaku is asking for. Although all the little schemes that Mei-chan planned out for Nagisa you see in every other school based anime, I didn’t find it all that boring at all, but in fact was laughing quite a lot. Though I think this is because Nagisa is the one playing it out and way out of her character.

Yeah real life is events are starting to take my toll on my anime watching so I’m like a good week or so behind the usual stuff that I watch. Hopefully I can get through most of the stuff before the new season starts. Well this episode played out how I thought it would with Nagisa’s mind thinking about her parents giving up their dreams, and when it came to stage time, she broke down in tears. But the one thing that truly made this episode awesome was Akio’s outburst to Nagisa as we got so much emotion not only from Akio, but from Sanae and Tomoya as well. It once again brought up the theme of family and it couldn’t have come at a better time.

Is it just me or has the story’s pacing gone really slow? Well it’s probably just me but to get to this point in Nagisa’s arc seems to be taking it’s sweet time, and given that this is also the 2nd last episode for TV broadcast, I wonder how much more they can cover in the DVD episodes. That is unless we get 4 DVD only episodes but as if that would happen. Anyway plenty of funny moments this episode as well like Tomoya’s reaction to Nagisa mentioning she has never watched a theatrical play before, as well as Sunohara’s way of calming Nagisa down.

If there is one thing I like about the Clannad TV series so far, it’s the developing relations between characters. But in this case, it’s the ever growing relationship between Tomoya and Nagisa. It certainly seems that Tomoya has adapted to living with the Furukawa’s but he knows that he still is an outsider. But of course he can’t help himself but help out Nagisa where she needs help and that requires becoming more involved with the family. I was certainly surprised that Akio decided to tell Tomoya about Nagisa, but I guess that means that Akio really trusts Tomoya.
