Here’s the follow-up to my Yellow Rose post: a list of anime girls who, to paraphrase Howard Jones, I would “like to get to know well”.
Wow, what a weird way to show my age.
12. Luka Megurine – Vocaloid
Ever since I heard the song “Double Lariat”, I’ve been a fan of the big sister Vocaloid. Her black-and-yellow outfit accentuates her nice figure, and she even wears a pseudo-headband in the form of headphones. Luka-nee, please sing me a lullaby – or boss me around, it’s all good.
11. Hisa Takei – Saki
At first I didn’t figure Hisa to be my favourite girl out of the Saki cast (and the competition is intense). I gradually fell for her as I witnessed her leadership style, and the way she held onto her dream of forming a school mahjong team. This hot red-head looks great with pigtails too, and gets props for bucking the usual school uniform trend by wearing a long dress.
10. Mikuru Asahina – The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Quite possibly the cutest moe-blob I’ve laid my eyes on. If only I could have her serve me tea in that maid outfit she wears in the club meetings. Furthermore, thanks to her time-travelling abilities, we know she grows up to be a real hottie down the track so in a way Mikuru’s a long-term investment.
9. Meer Campbell – Gundam SEED Destiny
I will confess that I enjoyed this series until episode 39. One of the highlights of the series was Meer, the curvaceous songstress who fired up the ZAFT troops. Her hot body in that unique outfit is a winner, and she gets extra points for pink hair.
8. Kallen Stadfeldt – Code Geass
Here’s one fierce mecha pilot who doesn’t take crap from anyone, yet still has a sweet side. Kallen fills out that pilot suit rather well, and her red hair sets me a-fire. She can be my squad leader any time.
7. Mizore Shirayuki – Rosario + Vampire
Monster girls come in all kinds of varieties, but I have my heart set on this ice queen. Mizore’s a shy girl but she’s very loyal, albeit in a stalker-ish way. She’s always seen sucking a lollipop which I am wont to do on occasion, so we already have something in common! Added bonus: has the voice of Rie Kugimiya without the usual tsundere style.
6. Nagisa Furukawa – Clannad
It’s difficult for me to write much about Nagisa without giving away the major plotlines of both Clannad series. Suffice to say that her selflessness and indomitability in the face of numerous struggles were the main qualities that drew me to her. Nagisa is so sweet and kind that she’d qualify to be a living saint.
5. Fate T. Harlaown – Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Strikers
Women in uniform have a certain appeal, and this warrior of justice scores majorly on my desire-o-meter. From her days as Nanoha’s rival, Fate has grown into a beautiful woman with a fighting spirit, yet still has a caring touch for her charges.
4. Mikoto Misaka – To Aru series
The typical tsundere girl doesn’t hold much appeal for me, which was why I was surprised when I got a crush on Mikoto. It’s probably because she definitely puts her maiden’s heart on display when she’s caught out – Mikoto has an amazingly cute blush. She’s also a headstrong type, and can even get me free drinks from vending machines.
3. Ryoko Kaminagi – Zegapain
Once again, I come to a girl on my list about who I can’t say much without spoiling her story. Ryoko is the “girl next door” who gets caught up in an other-worldly situation and makes the best of it. She gets kicked to the curb, figuratively speaking, but holds on and ends up as a victor of her struggles. It’s her will to survive along with her way of smiling in the face of adversity that makes me want to have her.
2. Subaru Nakajima – Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Strikers
Look, I know there’s some automotive bias on the part of her name, but it’s not like that! Subaru is easily my favourite girl in the Nanoha series: she’s tough, quick, and courageous, but is all smile when the day’s done. She looks great with that short haircut, and cuts a fine figure in her combat uniform.
1. Ritsu Tainaka – K-On!
My Princess of Percusssion. My Queen of, er, Quaver-beats. Readers of this blog who have seen my K-On! episode synopses will not see this choice as much of a surprise. Ritsu has seemingly limitless energy (provided the air-con is working), a great smile, and is always willing to set the rhythm both figuratively and literally. Oh yeah, she even carries off headband moé successfully. Oh captain my captain~!
