One of the main events of any convention is the cosplay competition. It usually draws a pretty big crowd and gets most people excited, though for me I’m sort of getting to the point where the cosplay competition isn’t turning out all that great. Either way I still decided to head in and take photos as usual. So hit the jump to check out Saturday’s cosplay competition coverage. WARNING: Picture intensive post.

Now here at Animania they’ve done something different compared to Supanova and SMASH. Instead of the chairs being up the front, there is a HUGE gap between them and the stage itself. In that gap there is carpet laid down for people to sit on. At first I thought it was strange how that was the case but after thinking about it and whilst taking photos during the competition, it’s actually not a bad idea. One of the most complained about things from the conventions from the photographers is that lack of space at the front due to crowding. But with a large open space it works well. Of course you still need to secure a place but at least you could move around.

Well that pretty much covers the cosplay competition for Saturday. Surprisingly the competition went by pretty fast, like an hour and half. Its what I like about the MC’s at Animania, they don’t waste too much time asking questions or trying hard to entertain the crowd. Quality of cosplay this year has once again been awesome but still a shame that the best cosplayers didn’t enter the competition.
If you want a copy of any of the photos seen here, send me an email to adun[AT]moemoerabu[DOT]net with the subject “Photo Request” and the name of the photo you want.

I wonder why some of the best cosplayers didn’t enter? Don’t they know they might have a chance of winning?
As already mentioned, I left after the 3rd cosplayer went off. Considering I saw nearly all of them around the convention and took pictures of most of them, I don’t see anything special when they are on stage.

Hey, I was just wondering if you went/got any photos from the Sunday Animania Fest.
Optic: It happens all the time. So of the best cosplayers never enter the comp. But I think it’s the daunting fact you have to go up on stage. It’s actually amusing since you’re embarrassed to go on stage but not embarrassed about cosplaying.
yen: I did attend the Sunday, but photos do take time to cull through especially when you have a bunch of other things to take care of first.
Could be they don’t see the competition as priority, since it involves quite a bit of waiting and pre-registration, and other preparation. There are other things to do during that time.
