Animania Sydney 09 – Saturday Part 2
September 6, 2009 | Author: Adun | In: Anime Blogs, Conventions & Events, Everyday Life, Miscellaneous, Photography
The Saturday at any convention is always the busiest, but that also means the most and some of the best cosplayers. So we continue on with the cosplay coverage in this post and some of my final thoughts for the Saturday. So hit the jump to check out the photos. WARNING: Picture intensive post.

Oh one thing about turning up to Animania as a panelist I brought a long a recently acquired item as a part of the panel, which is a Hachune Miku plushy. The highlight for me of the day is getting whatever Vocaloid cosplayers that I came across to hold the plushy. Not sure if I’ll do the same for Sunday. Anyway onwards to more cosplay photos:

YUKIMURA! OYAKATA-SAMA!

Where’s Wally?

It’s Elizabeth and Zura… I mean Katsura

Gotta love a pair of Mikus

It’s the same Miku cosplayer from SMASH.

And a World is Mine Miku

It’s another Zura..I mean Katsura. Together with Sa-chan.

My Miku Fascination demanded me to get a picture taken with Miku. Normally I’m on the other side of the lens.

Lulu-ko and her harem.
Well that pretty much covers the cosplays for Animania Sydney 2009 Saturday. There were plenty of cosplayers about, but a man can only take so many photos. Still surprised at the number I took as I was being quite lazy as I usually am. Also I noticed some photos turned out slightly overexposed as I must have had the flash set too high. Still I’m amazed at the quality of the pictures taken with the L lens. If you want a copy of any of the photos seen here, send me an email to adun[AT]moemoerabu[DOT]net with the subject “Photo Request” and the name of the photo you want.
Oh and for those who are a part of the AnimeSydney crowd, watch as our favourite Sleet turn himself into a lovely maid guy.

Saturday itself was quite an enjoyable day and with the convention moving to a larger venue, traffic wasn’t much of an issue since there were large amounts of space between sections. However I can see that being in a large warehouse type building has its problems especially with echoing. I was told last year this was one terrible factor and that this year is slightly improved. One thing that Roobar mentioned to me was that the karaoke section was placed dead centre of everything with the Chibi Stage to the west, Main Stage to the north, and Gaming to the south, it basically couldn’t be heard due to the sounds coming from these 3 sections. It would have been better to place karaoke in an enclosed room like the panel rooms.
Merchandise wise it’s not a large improvement and SMASH had a lot more to offer. Though this time around I didn’t buy anything since there is nothing for me to buy. Not to mention I just started working again but don’t have a lot of cash to splurge with just yet. Overall the convention itself hasn’t really changed all that much, it was just a change in venue. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to attend the main Animania Sydney this year but since I’m an invited guest I figured I might as well. Still there is the Sunday to look forward to and it’ll be a much more relaxing day.
Part 3, which covers the Cosplay Competition, will come later once I’ve recovered from my lack of sleep.

Thanks for the photos!
It’s a shame about the merchandise not being as good as SMASH. About 40% of the reason I would go is to get some good loot! ^^ But the cosplay is seriously impressive.

It’s because u were an invited guest for the panel, I decided to drag my ass there this year. The entrance fee wasn’t really a factor, it was just getting something out of it by the end of the day.
There were many Miku cosplayers this year. I recall there was only 1 last year. :S
One of the highlights was seeing a Alicia cosplay from Valkyria Chronicles. My god, what are the odds? lol

Panther: Unfortunately the Yukimura didn’t yell out OYAKATA-SAMA!!
Koharu: Did you attend Animania?
Optic: So lies! You would’ve went to Animania even if I didn’t have a panel
And yeah that Alicia cosplay was so random.
