Supanova Sydney 09 – Merchandise Purchases
Whenever I attend a convention, I try to place a budget on how much I should spend there. Over the years I have never ever met that expectation, and once again this year at Supanova was no exception. I came close to my set budget, but with the persuasion of friends Roobar and Blox, I caved in. Yes I am a weak man. Though do I regret on giving in so easily? Well sort of, but that is a different issue. Read on to see what goodies I bought from Supanova Sydney 2009.
The total amount of items is a lot smaller than last year’s rather large purchase, and for good reason. Nowadays I have to limit the type of items that I have to buy simply because I have run out of room. Though I have said this numerous times in the past, but really I am at the breaking point before something falls and kills me. I’ve already had a few things fall over already but luckily without damage. Anyway most of the items seen here were purchased from good long time friends at Tamarket.
The first item is Max Factory’s Ignis. During the phase of when Ignis figures was the rage, I missed out on all of them. Even in Japan I never thought of looking for one. So this figure is one of those ones where you wish you got it back then but now is finally a part of your collection. But like all my currently purchased figures, on top of the pile it goes. Oh and I paid $130 for this. Not bad considering that this figure is rare and sold out in most places.
A more recently released figure which I also forgot to order. This was actually purchased from Pinin and the one item that Roobar and Blox persuaded me to purchase. I was reluctant at first mainly due to the price tag on the figure: $148AUD. Yes I know she was on sale on HLJ a few weeks ago but when I considered the current price and including shipping, it works out to be roughly the same anyway.
For a while now I’ve been wanting a Danbo. I was actually going to buy them in Japan but forgot about it. And yes there are two of them here. One is the normal Danbo ($55AUD) and the other which is the Amazon special version ($60AUD). Two reasons for getting the Amazon Danbo: first it was only $5 more than the normal one, and second this WAS going to one of the Tamarket people, but knowing that it makes it even worth more owning it. Now all I need is another 3 Danbos and I can create a SUPER DANBO.
Ah now this is a Shana card case. I’ve ordered this from Tamarket about 3 times but they either forgot to bring it or couldn’t find it in their storage facilities. Well finally I have it so I can now store my business cards safely. Never liked carrying my cards in the box they came in or in my pockets where they get damaged. This was $17AUD.
I don’t remember the last time I bought an artbook but this was certainly a gem I couldn’t pass up. A friends of mine were running an artist table and they were selling some of their unwanted goods. The thing with my friends is that they known my tastes very well when it comes to anime goods and they knew I would buy this, and for $50AUD, it was a bargain. This is also a hardcover book and CARNELIAN work.
The last time was bought at the end of the day, when all was quiet and Tamarket could bring out some of the hidden goodies. When they mentioned dangos and showed me this, a dango daikazoku, I knew I wanted it straight away. Mini also wanted one and luckily they had more. And for only $35AUD I think this is my favourite purchase for this convention.
Although I had taken a liking to the dango daikazoku, when I got home and showed Erika what I brought back, she also took a liking to the dango daikazoku. I guess they belong to her now. Also I had a great idea for Erika and the dango daikazoku but I shall leave that surprise for SMASH.
So all up I spent a total of $495AUD excluding little things like badges from the clubs. My budget was supposed to be $300 but like I said before, I can never meet that. There are still two conventions left to go: SMASH and Animania Sydney. I’m expecting to not spend as much at either convention as I am starting to cutback on the spending quite a bit. A few things are happening in life at the moment and it wouldn’t surprise me if I went cold turkey by the end of the year, but we shall wait and see.
