Supanova Sydney 09 - Part 2

Continuing on from Part 1, this section covers the Madman National Cosplay Competition and the regular Cosplay Competition. At first I wasn’t sure what the difference was between the Madman National Cosplay Competition and the normal Cosplay Competition, but all was explained eventually. The Madman competition was a chance for the national winner to take a trip to Japan for 7 days and do stuff. Details can be found here. And the Cosplay Competition was the same as usual. So hit the jump to check out the photos from the cosplay competitions. Warning: Picture intensive post.

Supanova Sydney 09 - Part 1

So Supanova Sydney was once again upon us, and after a rather late night out of watching Transformers 2 on Friday night, I and my good friends Roobar and Blox headed down to Olympic Park for a day of fun, spending, and lots of walking. It’s kind of amusing how during convention time I get little sleep even though I’m just an attendee. This year is also a slightly important year for me as it will determine where my BURNING PASSION stands as recently I’ve been feeling burnt out, but also it means another field test for my 24-105mm L lens. So hit the jump to check out photos and my day at Supanova Sydney 2009.  Warning: Picture intensive post.

Summer 2009 Anime Season Preview

Before I knew it, the end of the Spring 2009 Anime season is coming to an end really soon, and that means it’s time to preview what will be airing in Summer season. Also I think I’m starting to lose my memories if it’s the Summer season that is a let down or another season. But looking back at last year’s Summer season there were some hits in the mix. So how does this year fair up? Read on to find out. All sources come from Moonphase and to check out who is subbing what, check out the Fansub Wiki.

Umi Monogatari ~Anata ga Ite Kureta Koto~
Umi Monogatari ~Anata ga Ite Kureta Koto~
Air Date: 24th June
Synopsis: The story centers on Marin and Urin, two sisters who live in the sea. One day, a beautiful ring falls in the middle of the sea, and Marin and Urin retrieve it. The two decide to leave their waterbound world for the first time to deliver the ring. After an arduous journey, they come across an isolated island where a high school girl named Kanon lives. The encounter between Marin and Kanon — the maiden of the sea and the maiden of the skies — awakens a hidden power as the world is threatened by an enveloping darkness.

Adun’s Thoughts: This is ZEXCS new series for the Summer season and given that I like most of their series, this will be something to look forward to. But what makes it much more interesting for me is that the director is Junichi Sato who is the director for the ARIA series. I don’t expect it to be ARIA, but I can sense that this will be a favourite for me this Summer season. Though the strange thing is that this series is based from a pachinko game. I may blog this series.

Mini’s Thoughts: The character designs look nice at least. I didn’t have any concrete opinion on this series until I scoped its trailer on Youtube; the hints of yuri and some magical-girl-esque transformation sequences are high points. I’ll leave this one to Adun since he’s the master of water anime around these parts.

Fight Ippatsu! Jūden-chan!!
Fight Ippatsu! Jūden-chan!!
Air Date: 25th June
Synopsis: The story revolves around Plug, a mysterious office lady from a parallel world to charge up “dejected” people.

Mini’s Thoughts: Original designs by Bow Ditama, of Mahoromatic and “late-night” manga fame? A ridiculously fanservice-laden and rather borderline trailer? A high-energy heroine with a pinball smile? Sign me up. The fact that I bought the Plug-chan figure during my first Japan trip may slightly influence my opinion.

Sydney Convention Season 09 is upon us!

Mio & Mugi

Although it’s the halfway point for 2009, it also marks the start of the main convention season for Sydney. The second convention for 2009 is Supanova Sydney held this weekend at The Dome, Sydney Olympic Park. The first was Mini-Animania Sydney. Even though I go to these conventions every year, I think these next few will be interesting for me as it’ll test how strong my BURNING PASSION stands. The past few months have been a somewhat stalemate for me in terms of otaku passion as I start approaching to certain aspects of my life e.g saving for my own house.

Anyway I will be attending Supanova Sydney for the Saturday only, unless I find a good reason to attend the Sunday. So look for an Asian guy with a camera and backpack (lol yeah very descriptive). Unfortunately I won’t be handing out my usual business cards as I forgot to get some more reprinted. Also Mini, the co-author of this blog and my Sister Princess twin, will be attending Supanova as well, so you may see him with me now and then.

In other news for conventions I have been invited as a guest panelist at SMASH for the BJD panel. I’m certainly excited about that since my passion in the BJD hobby is growing. So if you are attending SMASH, do drop by the BJD panel if you can. Animania Sydney I have also been invited as a guest panelist for a panel but unsure if I want to go ahead with it, but I’m currently leaning towards yes. Thoughts?

Mini says:
I will be wearing glasses.
I will be carrying a monochrome backpack.
I may be wearing a black jacket, depending on the weather.
I will not be sporting a “satsugai” kanji on my forehead because I am nowhere near as awesome as Krauser II.
Oh yeah, Saturday only for me too.

Hayate no Gotoku!! 2nd Season - 09

In every series there are always episodes that feature a side character, this is one of them. But since Hayate no Gotoku has such a vast selection of characters this episode features two of them: Sister Sonia and Yukiji. So for me I like one and the other was really meh that I started to loose interest towards the end. Anyway the first half was Sister Sonia seeing Wataru to confirm her feelings for him. This I remember clearly from the manga as it was a short story that ended amusinly. It also features Saki because I like my maids.

Hayate no Gotoku!! 2nd Season - 08

It’s most unfortunate but Hayate now has to leave the Katsura household. I always wished this part in the manga went on for a bit longer and have some drama where Nagi found out Hayate was staying at Hinagiku’s house, but that’s just asking for too much. Also Hinagiku’s mum is really the best, suggesting to Hayate his “chance” to return the favour on Hinagiku’s birthday. It does seem like she wouldn’t mind having a HayatexHinagiku pairing, but that’s probably for her own agenda.

Tayutama ~Kiss on my Deity~ - 07

Unfortunately this is the continuation of the Yumina episode and again, not terribly excited since I don’t like Yumina all that much. Maybe it’s just that I don’t like the entirely helpless imouto type and always has that kind of mindset. But I do have to give Yumina some credit at the start of this episode where she comforted a rather depressed Yuuri following the funeral of his mother. Anyway it also came at no surprise that Hou just ran away and then came back to Yumina.
