Valkyria Chronicles – 01

Opening Sequence:

OP: “Ashita e no Kizuna” by HIMEKA

From my experiences of watching anime I find that most anime that is based on an RPG turn out to be pretty bad. Ones like World Destruction, .hack/ROOTS, and Persona series come to mind so I’m kind of reluctant on finding out how Valkyria Chronicles will turn out. Still I always give a series at least 1 episode and with the first episode of Valkyria Chronicles, I am somewhat impressed.

Now I have never played the game so basically I know nothing about the game except for what I read on Wikipedia. At first the animation weirded me out with the scribbled shaded sections but it eventually grew on me. I guess A-1 Pictures Inc. are going for something similar to the game’s graphics which is the watercoloured look. Since we have the same studio who produced Kannagi, and my impressions of this episode, quality would certainly be maintained throughout. And I definitely like the character designs.

Though hearing Marina Inoue voice Alicia Melchiott just makes me think it’s Kana harbouring that rifle. Not to mention Alicia also has twintails. From the looks of the OP and ED, there seems to quite a large number of characters as well though I’m sure we probably won’t get enough time to go through all of them. Assuming this is a 13 episode series. Still the story is based upon war timesand I’m usually a sucker for those kind of themes So I will definitely continue watching Valkyria Chronicles just to see what kind of direction its heading in. I just hope it doesn’t end up like the other RPG based animes.

Ending Sequence:

U won’t be disappointed. I had high hopes for a great series and so far, they are delivering it. Not only the kept the animation somewhat similar to the game art but also, the OST as well. Without it, I doubt it will be the same Valkyria Chronicles experience people love from the game.
It’s a good thing I finished the game a few months back. Now I can relive all of these wonderful and memorable moments without the need to play it a 2nd time round.

Just like Optic said in the previous post. “You wont be disappointed”. For someone like me, who played the game and giving the 1st episode a two thumbs up is something that is wroth watching.^^ So far the art work, music and feel seem to deliever without any disappointments. You probably wont miss much if they follow the games story.

I still need to watch this anime…
I wonder if they did a good job in carrying over the storyline of the game to the anime…

The premiere was good, but you might be a little disappointed if you are expecting anything close to realistic combat (in the next episode)…

So I take it that if they follow the story as per the game then I won’t ever have to play the game? Well out of everything I’ve watched so far (though I haven’t finished watching the other half) Valkyria Chronicles looks promising.

Well one thing I know for sure is that after watching 3 episodes of it, I LOVE Allicia’s expressions. She has the funniest, oddest, and cutest expressions.
