OP: “Again” by YUI
Another series that is well anticipated by many anime fans and the aniblogosphere is the remake of the Fullmetal Alchemist series. As for me I wasn’t entirely excited about seeing this as I thought the first rendition was pretty good on its own. Still I guess there are some that weren’t satisfied with it thus we have this here remake. From what I have read this rendition will follow the manga more closely than the previous series, but I never read the manga so I wouldn’t know.

Impressions
Still with this being a BONES production, we can surely expect high quality, and that is exactly what we got. Though I don’t quite recall the character designs being so squarish? For a first episode we’re already plunged right into action as a glimpse of what I’m sure will be some more epic fighting scenes later on in the series and as well as re-introduced to some familiar faces. Quite nostalgic seeing how everyone is comparing Alphonse and Edward in who is the FMA and how Ed’s height is also compared. So its still good to see that the humour is also there.
It does make me wonder how different this new version will compare to the older version, not that it matters since I barely remember something I watched many years ago. But I’m also guessing we won’t be seeing too many filler episodes, that is unless its stretched out to 50 eps and seeing how its a BONES production, more than likely. One thing I hope for is that they do something more with Winry as she really didn’t get a very large role before. So either way FMA: Brotherhood looks promising and definitely something I will continue watching.
One thing about a new FMA now, I can imagine once again seeing all the Ed cosplayers at the conventions a few months away. *sigh*

I hope the front end of the new series is a lot tighter than the original. I tried rewatching the first series a few months ago and was reminded that the first 12 or so episodes were downright awful — I really didn’t like FMA until the late teen episodes. So, I really hope that they tighten it up in this remake and look forward to seeing it.

I was kinda skeptical about the remake considering I loved the original and watching it maybe change my views about it. Given I haven’t read the manga, I decided to give it a go and just enjoy it. Pretty impressed after the 1st episode. Not surprised how it started as the original started off with an epic fight scene as well. It’s great to see those old faces again.

The manga and the anime are quite different in terms of story. There is less emotional component (between Ed and Al, and their mother) in the manga but the pacing is quicker and there are more fights. I loved the old series too, but I’m really looking forward to seeing how the manga finishes, and then hopefully see the animated version of the events in FMA: Brotherhood.

FMA isnt too old either to think I barely remember some eps but yeah, I found in this ep we’re already plunged right into action. No doubt there will be some backflashes in the story.
