Spring 2009 Season Preview

March 25, 2009 | Author: | In: Anime Blogs, Season Previews

Looking back at the previous season previews I done, Spring season always brings around my all time favourite shows for the year and I can only hope that still is the case. Just like other years, there certainly is a lot to choose from with over 40 series premiering (including all the kids shows etc). Of course only a handful of these shows will I actually watch but with the recent inflow of work, and my attention mainly drawing to TV shows of late, let’s see how the Spring will bring me back to my desk. All sources come from Moonphase.

Queen’s Blade
Air Date: 2nd April
Based on an eroge of the same name I’m getting the feeling that this will somewhat be similar to Sekirei/Ikkitousen where it’ll be an all out boobfest. Not my usual cup of tea but I’ll watch to see how it goes.
K-ON
Air Date: 2nd April
KyoAni’s latest offering since the whole 2nd season of Haruhi was all lies. My Sister Princess twin is excited about this show and I naturally like KyoAni shows. From the looks of things it seems almost like another Manabi Straight.

Hayate no Gotoku!! 2nd Season
Air Date: 3rd April
One of my favourite series from back in 2007. I’m happy that there is a 2nd season but instead of SynergySP doing the animation, we have JC Staff handling it. Knowing this we definitely won’t be seeing another 52 episode run which kind of disappoints me. Still more Hinagiku is enough to satisfy me.
Valkyria Chronicles
Air Date: 4th April
Another series based off a game, but in this case its a console game. Never played, haven’t heard much about it but having a browse through the site has perked my interests.
Shinkyoku Soukai Polyphonica crimson S
Air Date: 4th April
When the first series came out, I was terribly disappointed in the overall animation quality, but I still enjoyed the series itself. This time we have a different company under the helm: Diomedea (previously known as Studio Barcelona) who have done series like Nogizaka Haruka and Nanatsuiro Drops. I doubt this will be popular amongst the aniblogsphere but this is probably my most anticipated show for the Spring season. More Corti is always welcome.
Full Metal Alchemist
Air Date: 5th April
Probably the most anticipated on the aniblogsphere and it’s definitely worth watching. Guessing from the trailers it’s a remake of the series but I thought the original series was pretty good as it was.
Shangri-la
Air Date: 5th April
Character designs are done by Range Murata so this is definitely worth a look at. The only other series that comes to mind that had Range Murata designs was Last Exile, so hopefully this series can be worthy of artstyle.
Tayutama ~Kiss My Diety~
Air Date: 5th April
Another eroge into anime series. I quite like the character designs, very cute and moé. Reading up on it I’m glad that this is not going to be like Kanokon what with the main heroine being a fox spirit and most likely won’t be an ecchi-comedy either. So defintiely another to look forward to.
Natsu no Arashi
Air Date: 5th April
Shounen series and produced by SHAFT, that’s all I really know. I’ll give it a go but not having any high expectations.
Saki
Air Date: 5th April
Gonzo is bringing forth this series about a girl named Miyanaga Saki who never wins and never loses in mahjong. Well a series featuring mahjong is something that will perk my interest but I’m not expecting the awesomeness of Akagi here. If anything I would probably find this amusing.
Ristorante Paradiso
Air Date: 8th April
I’m getting the same vibes as Antique Bakery about this series. An Italian girl works in a restaurant that is run by men with glasses. Well it certainly has that slice of life feel and I’m sure I’ll be enjoying this series, even if it doesn’t have the gay factor in it.
Eden of the East
Air Date: 9th April
Character designs are by the same person who does Honey & Clover, production by Production I.G, and having a look at the trailer it looks to be a good series. Actually from watching the trailer I had a feeling it was more of a trailer for a movie. Possibly involving politics and a romance between the two main characters.

These are the ones that so far interest me. As for blogging I’m not if I want to blog anime episodes. I’ll have to see how busy I get over the course of the next few weeks, and the seems most shows are aired the Saturday night. Still, spring season is looking very good.

Im expecting the Hayate no gotoku and FMA for this spring. If FMA is a remake I would wait a little bit for the release…

That’s a pretty long list. Do you plan on watching all of them?

I think i’ll stick with K-On and Senjou no Valkyria (since i played the game).

sonic_ver2: I do plan to watch all of them, I usually give it three episodes before deciding if I want to drop it or not. But it also depends on who subs what series as some series I rather watch subbed than raw.

I usually give them 3 episodes for those I want to test, but there are a few in there that I will likely finish no matter the length. Seems like most of my 8 or so are coming out on 5th April.

No Chi’s Sweet Home? :(

Eden of the East and Hayate season 2 are the ones I most anticipate, though Shangri-La, Queen’s Blade and K-on! I’ll most likely be watching as well. Not too sure about the others, or other shows coming that aren’t listed here. I never know what I’ll pick up until I get bored and try something new.

A few of them look promising, while the returning ones (Hayate no Gotoku S2 and FMA) are a must-see. Great lineup this season ^^

Hayate no Gotoku is the show I’m most excited about. Especially with the fanservice focused episode 0.

I’m curious about Full Metal Alchemist. I loved the original series and see little ways they could make it better.

K-ON I’ll give a shot because its Kyoto Animation and there’s yet to be a show I didn’t like from them. Might try the eroge animes as well if they aren’t too cliched.

As always, I look forward to the new anime season! So far, I’ve seen K-on. It’s a pretty funny show, and I look forward to more of it.
