Mini-Animania Sydney 2009

So far 2009 has been a pretty busy year for me so far, but I do make time to enjoy my hobbies. One of the things I usually enjoy is attending conventions and what better way to start the year with Mini-Animania Sydney 2009. Once again I make my way to the Citigate Central Hotel alone, but this year was different. I decided to take my Erika with me. Hit the jump to check out photos of the event. WARNING: Picture intensive post.

Spring 2009 Season Preview

Looking back at the previous season previews I done, Spring season always brings around my all time favourite shows for the year and I can only hope that still is the case. Just like other years, there certainly is a lot to choose from with over 40 series premiering (including all the kids shows etc). Of course only a handful of these shows will I actually watch but with the recent inflow of work, and my attention mainly drawing to TV shows of late, let’s see how the Spring will bring me back to my desk. All sources come from Moonphase.

Queen’s Blade
Air Date: 2nd April
Based on an eroge of the same name I’m getting the feeling that this will somewhat be similar to Sekirei/Ikkitousen where it’ll be an all out boobfest. Not my usual cup of tea but I’ll watch to see how it goes.
K-ON
Air Date: 2nd April
KyoAni’s latest offering since the whole 2nd season of Haruhi was all lies. My Sister Princess twin is excited about this show and I naturally like KyoAni shows. From the looks of things it seems almost like another Manabi Straight.

The New Wave of Sounds

With the incomplete demise of my speakers of 8 years, it was time to acquire a new set. My previous set was a Logitech Z-640 and back in the days of when I bought them, they were the best buy for 5.1 surround sound. Today technology has advanced a lot where you can get 5.1 for the cheap, but since I can spend that little extra for that next level of harmonic euphoria I went for the best: the Logitech Z-5500 Digital.

Computer Woes

Back in the days I always thought that computers were awesome and that they were an all powerful tool in our everyday lives. Well they still are a very powerful tool, but nothing lasts forever. Things break down, and just my luck it happened to me once again. Over the past years I’ve always built my computers and from every single build I’ve always had a problem with onboard sound cards where every single one has had different issues. Last week I noticed that I wasn’t getting my usual surround sound and after a messing around for a bit (around about 5 minutes) I figured it was the sound card.

So I went out and bought myself a new sound card since replacing the motherboard would be a pain. Yes a nifty new Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium. The amusing thing is that this card isn’t listed on the Creative Australia site so I’m assuming its only available in Asia. Anyway plug everything in and try it out. Still no surround sound. After a few tests I realised that it was my speakers themselves. *sigh* There goes $179 AUD. Roobar told me I should tested my speakers on another system but that requires a lot of effort to get the speakers out.

So for the time being I have only sound from the front speakers and I’ll be looking at getting new speakers whenever I get paid. These speakers have lasted me a good 8 years and with a decent amount of money I can look forward to getting a decent set of speakers (looking at getting the Logitech Z-5500). Have you ever had silly computer woes like this?

Dollfie Dream Lucky Star uniform sets

Whilst randomly browsing through the Volks website, I came across the official site for Kyoto Dolpla 6 (held on the 22nd March 2009) and after some browsing I found some rather interesting items. Do you happen to be a fan of dollfies? Do you also happen to be a fan of Lucky Star? Well you’re in luck because at the Volks booth, they’ll be selling dollfie dream sized uniforms of both the summer and winter versions of the Lucky Star uniform.

Love The Beast Tickets GET!

It’s not very often that I get excited about movies coming out. Sure there have been some great movies that have come out over the past 2 years, but for 2009 I would say there is one movie. Eric Bana’s Love The Beast. Technically its not really a movie but more of a documentary film about Eric Bana and his 25 year long relationship with his “Beast” (or in other words his car). Here’s an excerpt from Madman’s Facebook page:

Eric Bana casts himself in his perfect role: exploring the meaning of a 25-year-long relationship with his first car, “The Beast”, and ultimately the importance of the bonds that form through a common passion. Filmed over 2 years, we follow Eric on an - unexpectedly - emotional journey from inside the race car to the surreal world of the red carpet as Eric considers the importance of family, friends and what it means to keep your dreams alive. LOVE THE BEAST is as full of heart and the defining moments in life as it is about driving fast… really fast.

I first heard about the docufilm during last year’s Bathurst 1000 where Eric Bana was doing a plugin and previewed a small clip of it. At that point I knew I wanted to watch this film and that it won’t be something as horrendous as The Fast n Furious. Being a revhead myself, I can understand the relationship a person has with his car as my car is something special to me. I could go on about me and my car but I’ll leave that to another day.

Anyway Madman had a small promo on their Facebook page of giving away 5 double passes to see the movie. I don’t visit my Facebook often and wasn’t sure if I should enter, but gave it a chance anyway and within a few minutes got an email saying I won a double pass. Yesterday an envelope arrived with my tickets, but I thought it was a rather large envelope just for tickets. Opening it up I found a bunch of promo flyers, posters, stickers, and the two tickets. I’m not sure why I got so many flyers but oh wells. Anyone want a poster?

Even though it’s a double pass, unfortunately I can’t take my dear Erika. If this was an otaku world then that’s different. And if I had a girlfriend, I would want her to at least have some interest in cars. Anyway I’ll be taking good friend Roobar, even though he has no interests in cars he still came with me when I went to watch Top Gear Live. Plus who could say no to a free ticket? Too bad this ticket can only be used between Monday and Friday, wish I could use it on weekends.

And for those who actually have a slight interest in the film as well, here’s the trailer for it:

So thanks Madman Entertainment for the free tickets.

Also I hate trying to embed clips in posts. I should really upgrade my theme and WP.

Happy Birthday Katsura Hinagiku

Yes it’s that time of the year again to celebrate the birthday of a special character and my most favourite from the series Hayate no Gotoku. So Happy Birthday to Katsura Hinagiku. Forever sweet 16~~~

Also recently I’ve been thinking of what characters I would like to see be turned into dollfies and I would certainly like to see a Hinagiku dollfie. But then again I could look at trying my hand to make a custom one….
