Over the past 10 years my body has somehow developed a system where I only get sick 4 times a year without fail. When I mean sick I mean by anything: cold, migraines, fever outbreaks etc. Of course over the course of my life I never ever got those childhood diseases that a lot of people have gone through, and chicken pox is one of them. I always thought that I would never get chicken pox until I at least had my own kids, however I found out on Sunday night that my niece had the chicken pox. She was clear of it by then, but it seem that I caught the infection earlier during a family gathering. However this was after the spider bite.
Living in a house does have it’s perks but the one downturn is dealing with the insects that crawl around. And unfortunate for me that the house is only 50 metres from the nature reserve all types of creepy crawlys make their way in. On Saturday night as I was sleeping in another room due to the heat, I woke up in some rather excruciating pain such as aching muscles, headaches, sore throat, fatigue, chest pains etc. I noticed that my right hand was hurting and noticed a small sore spot and it could only mean a spider had bitten me. So being a man, I toughed it out and the fact that by the time I was well enough to go to the doctor they were closed.
Monday, which was both Chinese New Year and Australia Day was slightly better, but still in pain. Yes a public holiday and most clinics closed early thus rendering me to fend for myself once again. Tuesday I finally got to see a doctor and he noticed that my tonsillitis has returned (I had a really bad case late last year) and got medication for that. The spider bite wasn’t that bad and should clear up soon. However I did notice a few little spores popping up on my skin and just thought it was some reaction to the spider bite.
Today was different. I noticed the spots started to appear more rapidly thus opted to see a different doctor. So in the waiting room for about 1 hour in pain I finally got to see him and I’m diagnosed with chicken pox. So yeah, I’m having a pretty shit Chinese New Year as I’ve broken into fevers 4-5 times already, barely able to walk, vomiting, having no appetite, and suffering from two different sicknesses at the same time. On the bright side, I have taken sick leave from work, I get to watch the Australian Open (I love my tennis), and I’ll be getting a piece of luxury tomorrow.

Determined to get through the figure backlog I have once again gotten through another figure photo shoot. This figure is a well known one amongst collectors so once again, no review, just pretty pictures. I’m not sure why this took me so long to get around but none the less I have done it. So hit the jump to check out more photos of Max Factory’s Sawatari Makoto.

With the New Year already past, it means a new start to the 2009 expenditure. Normally I don’t do posts like this but what they heck. So my first figure to arrive at my doorstep is none other than Kotobukiya’s Swimsuit Hinagiku. As always I also forgot when I ordered this as well as forgetting that it was also a 1/6 scale figure.

But just like all the other figures, she’ll simply sit on top of the never shrinking (and kind of not growing) pile of figures that I have left unopened. I’m hoping this year I can at least clear the backlog since this pile still has figures from early last year but alas, free time seems to escape from me somehow. Oh and for those interested, below is what the pile is currently like:

The only exception is the usually nendoroids or figmas that have arrived over the past few months I have bothered to open and place in the display cabinet. I’ve also removed 3 figures from this pile as I’m planning on giving them away but just haven’t figured out how. This pile is also kind of annoying since I’ve also kicked it by accident a few times whilst walking in and out of my room.
So currently in the pile is about 30 figures (excluding any nendoroids and figmas) and with this many figure boxes I could probably stack them up to make 2 towers that’ll touch the roof (perhaps I should take a photo?). So do you think I can make it through this backlog of figures?
Oh for those wondering, yes that’s a Saber dollfie sitting on top of the Exelica box.

Finally, the first figure photo shoot of 2009. Though looking back it’s been since July since my last one where I did the Seven Figures Over Seven Days, and here I’m thinking damn that’s a long time ago. Still the pile of figures has remained somewhat unchanged, in fact it’s actually grown bigger. Hopefully 2009 will see a change and me actually getting through all the figures in the backlog starting off with this little gem: Kotobukiya’s Kouno Harumi. Hit the jump to check out more photos.

Once you have attended Comiket at least once and bought doujinshi, when the next one comes about you want more! Well that’s the case for me and when I found out that Tony Taka was doing a Clannad one for Comiket 75, I knew I wanted one. Though how would I acquire myself a copy? Fortunately a friend of mine had returned to Japan for a short time and decided that he wanted to line up for the T2 line.
What’s included in this pack is what seems to be the usual stuff you get in any pack: pencil board, a copy of the latest doujinshi, phone card, calendar, clear document holder and the bag to carry it all. So many thanks to my friend ACQ and his friends who lined up from midnight in the cold Winter and by the sea.
But this brings about a good question, if you ever went to Japan, would you go out of your way to help purchase items for friends? When I went, I did help some friends acquire items but in the end it felt like such a pain. Of course I had some pretty unreasonable requests as well and other smaller things I which were acceptable. Since I myself know it’s a pain, whenever friends go to Japan I try not to burden them with a list of items but only one or two items.

In any kind of job, one is given a certain amount of annual leave each year (for me it’s 5 weeks). Over the course of 3 months at work I have somewhat been mentally drained from it all and coming to a point where everyday just seems to be a blur. I’m not sure why that is so, perhaps it’s the solo management I have to do when developing applications for clients, the constant “feature creep” that clients do, or maybe that I don’t have a fellow co-worker to keep me company (about 70% of the time I’m in the office alone).
Anyway Roobar pointed out to me that it’s close to 6 months since we went away for our Japan holiday and it’s probably perhaps time that I go on another one. Although to me 6 months doesn’t seem to be that long but you know how time flies when working. Since my income is a reasonable amount, and that I have slowed down on my online purchases, I figured that I should head overseas once again. But the million dollar question is where? There are many places that I want to visit and experience, but for the next adventure I’m thinking of either Hong Kong or Singapore (currently leaning towards Singapore). I would prefer to go to Venice, but that kind of trip is on a much grander scale as I would like to visit other European countries at the same time.
I suppose one way to see this is a short and simple holiday. Some would probably suggest Japan, but in all seriousness I’m bored of Japan and that I’m more than likely to spend a god awful amount of money again. So yes, with this short and simple holiday I prefer to not spend so much. So with a choice of Hong Kong or Singapore, I know that I can get relatives and some friends to show me around Hong Kong, but I know nothing of Singapore. Windbell once said to me that I should only visit Singapore for nice cheap food. Obviously there should be more to Singapore than this so for those reading this, are there other things to do in Singapore? Is it even worth going there for a holiday? I’d like to hear the opinions for Singapore residents and those from other countries who have visited Singapore. Also this will probably be my first solo trip overseas.
Of course all this is a thought in progress, so nothing is concrete at the moment.

Earlier this week I met up with fellow Sydney anime bloggers M12, Optic, and Koshiko for a event filled with fun and anguish. One of the things that you have to look out for as a figure collector is bootleg items. In the past I and a few friends have been a victim, and Optic has recently been a victim as well. So we decided to show people how exactly you should treat bootleg figures. Hit the jump to read on on what we did.
