Winter 2009 Season Preview

December 23, 2008 | Author: | In: Anime Blogs, Season Previews

With the end of the Autumn season approaching fast, it’s time to take a look at what is installed for the next season and what will kick off the start of 2009 anime. Its been a while since I did one of these so seeing the line up of shows coming up gets me excited especially since I want to get back into the swing of otaku related activities. All sources come from Moonphase and Animesuki Forums. So here is a list of animes that I will be keeping an eye on:

Maria-sama ga Miteru 4th Season
Air Date: 3rd January

From what I’ve seen of what’s available whilst writing this, by far Marimite is definitely the one series that I look forward to this season. It has been a long time since the OVA series so once again we shall the girls make sure their skirts aren’t disorderly and that their white collars are tidy. And I’m sure I’ll be saying gokigenyou for a while, lol.

Air Date: 3rd January

Based on a shounen comedy romance light novel about juice/soda turning into girls. The cover illustration of the light novels is done by Suzuhira Hiro but I’m not all that convinced by what the official site has to offer. Still the story seems strange, and strange can lead to many things so it has perked my interest somewhat.

White Album
Air Date: 3rd January

A PC eroge turned anime. The game is produced by Leaf, same company that brought us the To Heart series, Utawarerumono, and Comic Party just to name a few. I don’t know much about the game but I do know that Seven Arcs is handling the animation, the same company that brought us the Nanoha series and Sekirei. Let’s hope they brings us the same quality as Sekirei and the first two Nanoha series and not something like StrikerS.

Air Date: 4th January

This is the 2nd anticipated series for me this season. The story revolves around the main girl Kanako and enrolls into an all-girls school who has a phobia of men. Hoping to find her yuri partner, she comes across Mariya, who turns out to be a sadistic cross-dressing guy. Sounds very much like OtoBoku but with a twist.

Minamike Okaeri
Air Date: 4th January

A rather unexpected third series was in the list on Moonphase which kind of had me stumped. I didn’t know there was enough material from the manga to make a third series but it matters not. I look forward to a third series of Kana’s antics.

Zoku Natsume Yuujinchou
Air Date: 5th January

The first season of Natsume Yuujinchou went under my radar at the time until I started watching under recommendation. Perhaps a bit slow and episodic for a few, but its a great series to relax to and I do look forward to the continuation of the story. Though It would’ve been better if they chose a different title.

Sora wo Kakeru Shoujo
Air Date: 5th January

One of Sunrise’s offerings for this season that has the same staff as Mai-Hime/Mai-Otome so it will either mean complete awesome, or complete fail. So with the combination of cute girls and mecha it can go either way. Not much info on the story that I could find but I guess I’ll watch to find out.

Hajime no Ippo – New Challenger
Air Date: 6th January

Firstly let me just say FUCK YEAH! The first series of Hajime no Ippo was indeed long, 75 episodes, and I can only hope that this series will go just as long or possibly longer. The other awesome thing is that they are also using the same seiyuu cast from the first series and with Madhouse producing it again, we’re sure to expect just complete awesomeness.

Asu no Yoichi!
Air Date: 8th January

Story is about Karasuma Yoichi who moves into the city under order of his father to continue his training, but the doujou he moves to has 4 sisters. Based on a shounen manga I get the feeling it’ll be Love Hina type of thing and so far this seems to be the only harem type series on my list.

Kurokami The Animation
Air Date: 8th January

The second series to be offered by Sunrise. Based on a seinin manga about a game programmer caught in a battle between two beings and ends up losing his left arm. General impression is it seems to be a dark type of series and with Sunrise handling it may be the better of the two series from them this season. Still that’ll be determined after the first few episodes.

Munto TV
Air Date: 13th January

The original Munto OVA series is a series that has eluded me so I guess I don’t have much initial impressions for the TV series. Still it’s a KyoAni series and just another series to push back Haruhi 2 or another FMP series. They must do this to tease the fans or something.

And that concludes my Winter 2009 line up. I can’t say I’m terribly impressed by what I see so far but that of course may change once the season has started. I haven’t noted what series I will or will not blogging as I’m still in the air about whether I want to continue blogging anime episodes. Though I may try again but with a lot more shorter content.

Thanks for your lineup, Asu No Yochi will be nothing special.. having read the manga i’m unsure that we need another large breasted series -_-

Sorakake, Zoku Natsume, Asu no Yoichi (for a test drive) and Minami-ke are on my watchlist too. Surprisingly I have quite a few I want to catch this winter, though probably not as many as when spring arrives.

For this season I’ll have to rely on word of mouth to see what series to start (worked out well for the fall season). White Album looks like it might be good, I usually like stuff that comes from Leaf.

Oh man, I haven’t even started on any series from this season so I’m not ready to look into the next. Out of ur selection, Minamike Okaeri is a hot favourite. ^_^
