After a mediocre night worth of sleep (roughly 3 hours) The first place on the agenda is none other than the Holy Land of Otakuism, Akihabara. This probably comes as no surprise as I’m sure most people would hit up Akiba first just to see what kind of things there are. Personally for me I already know most of the main street stores but I never got around to exploring the regions furthest from the station or any of the hidden alley stores. This time around it was pretty much the same thing, except I slowly went through some of the stores and some new ones I didn’t get to encounter. Hit the jump to read on for my first round to Akihabara.

For Roobar and myself, Akiba is nothing new. We know what most of the stores have and what we can get, but for the other two it was a new experience for them. But unlike us, they’re not really into the whole buying merchandise thing. One of the greatest downfall of Roobar and I knowing each other’s taste is that we can spot things that the other doesn’t. OH GOD there are just so many things I see that I wanted to buy. Normally I’m not too phased about seeing all the figures and such, but it’s mainly all the things that I don’t see online that is gets us going “OMFG”. It’s also kind of funny seeing the Japanese look at us with their reactions when we start talking like that.

A ham and cheese roll, and an iced coffee for breakfast.
We really didn’t end up exploring the main streets of Akiba as we went around in a circle and ended up at Yobodashi Akiba. This is the first time I have explored Yobodashi and boy was this place HUGE. It’s bigger than most department stores in Australia and I managed to see the biggest TV I have ever laid eyes on. I currently forget how large the TV is, but it’s enough to cover my entire living room wall and costs only 5 million yen. Also at Yobodashi, we ended up eating lunch and below is what we ate:

Deep fried goodness.
So after a long day we ended up meeting a few friends of Roobar who are currently living in Japan. At the same time, Uchimizukko was being held just outside Yobodashi Akiba and I headed over in hopes to take photos. Unfortunately my photography skills sucked and I was pretty exhausted from so much walking and the heat was getting to me. Check out a better coverage by Xenblog.

So to celebrate Roobar meeting with friends, we headed out for drinks at a place called 40 Beers on Tap and pretty much drank until we we’re full. Just outside after having drinks, small event was going on but I wasn’t sure what it was about. Do excuse the crappy photo below, not easy taking photos when slightly intoxicated.

So now full of beer and the night still being young, what did we do? head back to Akiba of course. I must say though, shopping after drinking was pretty fun. Perhaps I should do it more often, lol. Well I had already purchased items beforehand so this time around there was nothing else to buy at this point, so thus we headed back to the hotel for a good nights rest.
All up we only explored a good 15% of Akiba as we stayed mostly to one side and didn’t even hit the main street. The next trip to Akiba will be a proper one and it’ll more than likely drain my wallet. In the meantime my wallet is still fat, but I did buy some small items which you will see in another post. One other thing I acquired was sore feet and ended up with small blisters, so it hurts like hell to walk right now. Goes to show I’ve become fat and lazy. Ah such is the life of a programmer. Oh and here’s just a random picture of the gate near our hotel.
