First up in the line of 7 figures over 7 days is an item that I kind of unexpectedly ordered. Though with the exploding popularity of Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu, I guess I just went along with the flow, but I think it’s more of the fact that I had the money to blow, lol. Anyway hit the jump to check out a colourful review of a colourful character, Tsuruya-san in maid uniform.
Tsuruya-san is one of those characters that didn’t get a lot of screen time in Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu, but has still managed to become quite a favourite amongst many. But the one thing that probably made her stand out was the maid outfit she wore during the school festival. If this figure wasn’t in her maid uniform I probably would have passed on ordering her.
The first thing about this Tsuruya figure when I took her out of the box, damn her hair is spiky. I actually pricked my hand by accident but thankfully I didn’t break anything. Her hair is the most defining feature of Tsuruya’s character as there really aren’t that many cute anime girls with long green hair and with such a positive attitude.
Another cute factor of Tsuruya is her fang. Since her face is quite large it’s easily noticeable but it also reflects that she is a bright character. It may not look like it in the photos, but Tsuruya is actually leaning forward in her pose but I’m not too worried about her leaning. Figures these days are becoming pretty solid and manufacturers are accounting for those kind of things.
Quality is top-notch as you would expect from Alter. The paintwork is excellent and no visible flaws on Tsuruya. The colour scheme of her maid uniform matches well with her hair since it brings vibrancy to the overall figure. I love how her skirt also flows with her pose and that she has such a slim figure, even though the maid uniform covers most of her body.

How can I sum up this figure? Charming is probably the word I would use. There is just so many moé factors about this figure that it’s more than just cute. I think knowing that Tsuruya-san is such a positive person that it rubs off on others and with her big smile showing her fang and posing with a peace sign makes her such a lovely figure. Even though this is a figure that was released well over 8 months ago and there has been a Max Factory version of the same character, I can’t really say which one I would prefer. Both are great figures but I would say the Max Factory one wins over because of the neko-mimi. Still that isn’t to say that this isn’t a bad figure, in fact its a great figureand it’s one for the Tsuruya fans out there.
Photograph Notes:
Recently been getting a bit bored using coloured cardboard backgrounds and figured it was time to try some other things. What I used here is wrapping paper I bought from IKEA (that place has EVERYTHING) and I think it has worked really well with Tsuruya as it adds to the overall vibrant colours. Though since I haven’t done any photography for a while, it seems my skills are slipping, lol.

Nice pictures! She’s looking great all around, love the quality, and the price isn’t so bad either. The photo quality looks fine to me, and the background works good.

She’s got a little screen time but she’s been loved by many due to her cuteness and active especially in the school festival episode where she and Mikuru’s class hosting a maid cafe. Have got her last year and am considering getting the Alter Mikuru to pair them up. but probably won’t get the Alter Haruhi it seems that she’ll become a leaner sooner or later and I’m not fond of the pose.

I reckon u chose a good bg. It gives her more of an extra shine from the shoot.
When it came to deciding which Tsuruya-san I would get, it was either her or the Max version. I chose the Max version instead purely because she was the last one to complete my Max Haruhi set. If I was a die-hard Tsuruya fan, I would have grabbed her as well.
Still, the figure is lovely. As expected from the quality by Alter.

I always see it as a good thing whenever a figure has hair that’s sharp enough to break skin. Usually means the hair looks good when it gets like that.

Oo~ Nice background =o the first shot is totally wallpaper worthy (just a little more space on the left would’ve been perfect for a wp). Any chance of providing us with a bigger copy? Would like to tweak the colours and such for a wall to use =3
I like how the red in the background also draws out her bow which is quite cute and provides a nice contrast with the blue and green =D

samejima: Yeh I’m not much of a fan on Alter’s Haruhi. It just doesn’t seem very Haruhi at all.
Rin: I may get the neko-mimi version as well just to compare.
Optic: Completing a set is understandable. I did the same thing with the Solid Works ARIA figures.
super rats: My precious loot hurting me is more like a sign that it appreciates me
Koshiko: I can email you a larger copy once I get home.
Another figure added in my wanted list… It’s great! And is the hair really that sharp?
