Sekirei - 01

Opening Sequence:

OP: “Sekirei” by Hayami Saori, Inoue Marina, Hanazawa Kana, and Endo Aya

A group collaboration from all the four main female seiyuus and it’s about average for me. Still can’t beat Bamboo Blade in terms of group songs. Well the OP sequence was quite actiony and I wonder if it’s an indication that the series will follow suit, of course mixed in with the hundreds of fanservice shots plastered throughout the episode.

Impressions

Now I’m not usually a huge fan on the excessive amounts of fanservice that you get in your average anime series, especially in fighting based series. Ikkitousen is a prime example as I’m usually hanging on by a thread on whether I should stop watching or not, though so far in Sekirei I don’t get that at all. Well not yet. But I’m speculating that we’ll see Musubi is the one that will be losing the most amount of clothing throughout the series compared to any of the other well-endowed female characters, which probably is such a bad thing since Musubi is cute. So far there isn’t much of a story to work with except what we’re shown at the start of the episode which does perk my interest in that as well as what the Sekirei exactly are.

Animation production is handled by Seven Arcs (the three Nanoha series and Inukami). Personally I haven’t watched Inukami but I know how much ecchiness is in the series and by combining that with action sequences similar in quality to Nanoha, Sekirei could possibly turn out to be quite enjoyable. Assuming one looks beyond the fanservice (yeah…..right). Hayami Saori (Momoka from Touka Gettan) voicing Musubi I find to be such a perfect fit as Momoka was a pretty carefree person, much like Musubi and her undressing in front of Minato. Still there are plenty of characters to be introduced and the first episode was pretty enjoyable, I’ll definitely give it a few more episodes to see how it goes but I do think that this will become a pretty average harem series.
