Supanova Sydney 2008 - Saturday Part 1

It’s that time of the year again where fans of pop-culture converge into one place to enjoy a day with other fans of pop-culture. Yep it’s Supanova Sydney 2008 so it was time to head down to The Dome at Sydney Olympic Park armed with camera gear, Moé Moé Rabu business cards, and a wallet fat full of gold. Though I didn’t actually arrive to the convention until midday since I had some earlier business to deal with in regards to my Japan trip, but upon stepping through the doors after paying my $20 admission ticket, the place was packed. I swear Supanova must get larger each year, or I keep forgetting how many people attend each time. Before combining the camera gear together, I had a walk around with fellow friend Roobar to see what was there and to say hello to various friends and associates. WARNING: Picture intensive post.

The most congested areas were around the Madman store and along the artist gallery, due to the guest signing area being right across from them. It’s great that was the case as more people walk past the artists and get more exposure. Though I usually don’t buy items from the artist stores as a lot of the things they draw are not to my liking, e.g Naruto, yaoi etc, but I do admit that some are really good.

I find it rather strange how there was also a LAN party setup at Supanova as I don’t recall if they had one last year. It’s similar to what they do at Autosalon Final Battle where it’s combined with GAME1. Though would you bring your computer to a pop-culture convention? I probably wouldn’t since my computer weighs too much and I’m a lazy lazy man.

After walking around the various areas of the convention, scouring for things to buy, some things had certainly perked my interest, but I actually didn’t buy anything since I had no means to carry the stuff. Not to mention I had an order to pick up from Tamarket of EPIC PROPORTIONS. But more on that in a later post, but I can say that you’ll be certainly surprised at what Roobar and I did for this convention.

So taking out the camera, get the flash to gattai with the camera and I was all set. I kept some cards on me to hand out to people as well as left some on the JAUWS table. Do visit the guys at the JAUWS table as they have some awesome badges and some other cool items to sell. So now in photographer mode, I went snapping away. It’s also rather strange as at most conventions, my flash tends to not go off all the time, but this time it only did that a few times.

Your photos turned out much better than mine :( I like the cheese-kun
Overall the convention was pretty good just at times I had nothing to do and food was expensive.
As for fragfest…I also would never bother carrying my computer over there, still the turnout wasn’t too bad for it.
