One Year in ColdFusion Development

One year ago I was on the verge of a financial breakdown since I was approaching my 10th month in search of full time work. But after an arduous journey through many interviews and many miserable nights at Woolworths, I finally scored myself in a junior web developer job specialising in ColdFusion.
But one year ago I never knew what ColdFusion was let alone knew it existed. But thankfully I got some basic training in as part of starting the job and within days I was already working on a few minor applications. Within weeks I was already supporting some larger corporate scale applications thanks to me having learnt SQL back in uni. So as the weeks and months went on by my skills in ColdFusion began to develop as well as my HTML, CSS, and SQL skills and some of the things that I discovered over the past year have been pretty awesome but more importantly how powerful web tools can be.
Being a web developer though not only means just churning out code everyday. I have even learnt a few things about Photoshop thanks to the graphic designer and have even applied some of them to the figure photos that I have taken over the past year. My analytical skills have also changed and my boss has taught me to “think laterally”, and that has lead me to climbing up the ladder to also become a project manager, even though its only three of us. Well better off learning this stuff now than later.
Well with one year down I still have many more years to come. I’ve only scratched the surface in terms of CF development as I still need to learn more about frameworks, more on SEO (Search Engine Optimization) , more advanced SQL programming and the list goes on. I also plan on taking the Adobe ColdFusion certification exam which is something I look forward to. Though one other thing, I hope I can get a increase in my salary.

Congratz on making through this far.
A year ago I was in a similar situation. Stuck in a dead-end job doing kitchen hand at Oporto but I was lucky enough to get a position at helpdesk after countless and countless of rejections. I sometimes still wonder what would happen to me if I still worked there. I will rot away under chicken fat. @_@

Thanks guys.
Rin: It’s good, but can also be bad. There have been some downsides, mainly dealing with particular clients but you get that in most jobs I guess.
