Itazura na Kiss – 03

Even after 3 episodes this series is definitely becoming a favourite for this season as there is plenty of humour, but plenty of development as well. Though I’m surprised to see an event like the sports event so early into the series as I thought they would make some kind of wager during the event or something like that. Still plenty of laughs mainly from all of Kotoko’s reactions and how ironic that her scavenger hunt item was the person she loves. But the best moment would have to go to her crashing into Kin-chan during the relay race.

Impressions

Naoki is still an ass at this point of the series and reading Kotoko’s letter whilst she was asleep is really invasive of her privacy. He may be smart, but he’s pretty stupid when it comes to a girl’s privacy. But damn it was good when Kotoko slapped him when he recited the love letter and he deserved it. I can’t really see myself liking Naoki’s character throughout the series as I can probably see him being a total ass for quite some time. But I’m willing to believe he’ll change sooner or later, which brings to the point of how he mentioned his feelings could change. This I find rather strange as I can’t seem to figure out the trigger of why he would say such a thing. Could it be because of the love letter?

Either way it seems that Kotoko can handle Naoki’s cold-hearted attitude as by the end of the episode, she recalls what he said about his feelings could change. So it seems that she can get the upper hand on Naoki if the situation arises. Next episode is the pool episode. Again I find it weird how we see some of the usual events from a high school drama/comedy is being played out so early. But it appears to involve Naoki’s little brother.

Also after watching this episode and thinking of what the series reminds me of, I finally figured it out. It reminds me of Hana Yori Dango, what with a lower class girl and a higher class guy and each involving into each other’s lives. Except Kotoko isn’t as awesome as Tsukushi, but at least Naoki is a bit of an ass like Domouji.

Rumour has it that this series will take all these characters on through further education and (gasp) even marriage. That could explain why the seemingly obligatory Sports Day / Pool etc episodes are appearing so quickly in the series.

This series is my favourite so far this season closely followed by Macross Frontier and Allison to Lillia. Kotoko manages to make you totally root for her despite being a klutz in most respects while Naoki will usually end up doing the right thing despite himself!

Yeah this is my favourite of the season as well. The thing is, this show is good, but not fantastic. Yet, it still ranks as the top. That goes to show how average this season has been =S?

strichone: Now that’s rather interesting. If that’s the case then it wouldn’t be so bad because at the rate they were going was pretty fast given that they are also 3rd year students and finishing high school soon.

Ahh I haven’t read the manga yet, but I’ve seen the Taiwanese Drama adaptation… strichone has got it right on the dot! The manga goes though like… 8-10-ish years through their relationship, so they’ve got a lot to cover. The first Taiwanese series was 20 episodes (each 1 hours long), ended about 5 years through their relationship, and highschool only took up about 5 of those episodes! But I think the anime so far has been doing a great job of hitting all the major points at a good pace. Believe it or not, they should be out of highschool quite soon.

PS: Right now there’s a sequel to the Taiwanese drama out, which has now reached the point where the mangaka had unfortunately died, but I’m excited to say that there’s still a lot to see! Watching the anime version come out around the same time makes all these events feel nostalgic!
