Having paid the Japan trip last Saturday, it was time to go all out once again with the spending splurge and Kinokuniya happened to be conveniently above the travel agent. Well it has roughly been two months since I last headed into Kinokuniya, so there was bound to be something for me to buy. But given in was two months it was quite a lot. Anyway upon grabbing most of the things I know that I wanted to buy, there is always the chance of finding something totally unexpected. Just before heading to the counter, I happened to have spotted this artbook - Sasaki Mutsumi’s latest artbook. Hit the jump to see what’s inside.

At first I had no idea what I picked up as all I saw was Myself; Yourself and Memories Off. Dead serious I just picked it up and was curious, but then my good friend Roobar sad “buy it”. His abilities to make me buy things without thinking is scary. But the same goes for me as well. Anyway, upon returning home, I figured I’d go through my purchases and was certainly surprised to find that this is actually an artbook containing many of Sasaki Mutsumi’s works from the recent series Myself; Yourself, Memories Off, Futakoi, and Happy Lesson.

Of course the images you see here is only a sample of what’s contained in this artbook. When I first picked it up, I thought it was rather heavy, but given that it has over 100 pages of lovely full paged artworks, it’s well worth the weight. I’ve always been a fan of the character designs for Futakoi and Myself; Yourself but never bothered finding out the actual artist for the character design (I’m lazy like that). But if you are a fan of Sasaki Mutsmi then this is definitely worth it. When I bought this at Kinokuniya, there were a few copies left, but for those overseas, you can get it at Amazon Japan here.
Note: holding a book open with one hand and holding an DSLR in the other hand is damn hard, lol.

Shame I have no Kinokuniyas around and no credit card either lol
Never knew the character designer was him though; not that I knew of him previously.
Looks nice…too bad I have no money
$55 bit too much for me
Want!!! I so want that artbook. There are tons of artbooks I want, but that one is on the top on my must get artbook list. You went on a shopping splurge after buying the ticket to Japan…most people save up for the trip. I’m cutting back on buying stuff for now until the trip in Japan is over…
To my surprise I don’t think u’ll enjoy Mutsumi Sasaki’s art works.Mutsumi Sasaki do have huge influence upon Chinese visual novel community due to the official localize of Memory Off series he even have an Chinese wikipedia page.Personally I think MO series and Mutsumi Sasaki’s artis a just so-so nothing worth pay particular attention
It’s not 55$ it’s about 28$ from amazon

Shame it’s use a few illustrations from her earlier Mutsumi Sasaki 1998-2005 Illustration book. I see like 3-4 images that were reused. I do believe. (Not looking into Aoie’s book) ^^ But of course as a rabid Sasaki fan, I’ll be getting this book.
Thanks for the pics. I like his drawing style and will pick this one up if I see it in the stores.
Bubby: $55 isn’t so bad given that it’s pretty thick and most of the illustrations are full page.
Rin: That weekend was a big shopping splurge. Plus I had some spare cash to burn at the time so all was good. But like I said, in the presence of Roobar, you can’t help but spend.
HisuiIBMPower4: I like a variety of art styles, but it doesn’t mean I know who the artist are. There are only a few artists that I pay attention to and know that it’s their style from a glance.
aoie_emesai: The $55 price tag is what I paid at my local Kinokuniya, and Bubby is referring to that. It would still cost just that much if you include shipping as well since Amazon Japan only allow International Express, and books are usually hit with a pretty high shipping fee.
I love my trips to Kinokuniya as well. There’s bound to be surprises even though I visit as often as 2 a month.
I checked out EST 2 weeks ago at Kino as well. Pity there’s not enough Hinako in the artbook
I snagged Zero no tsukaima visual artbook instead. In fact during the same visit, I browsed through Kozue Amano’s Alpha and Stella as well. I concluded Cielo was superior so I didn’t get them
If you enjoyed Mutsumi sensei’s artwork, you may want to check out her older collection.
