Itazura na Kiss - 01

Opening Sequence:

OP: “Kimi, Meguru, Boku” by Hata Motohiro

For some strange reason the opening theme reminds me a bit of Honey & Clover style of music, well more specifically Suneohair. Though it does go well with the overall theme of the series, which is a romance comedy.

Impressions

One of the shows this Spring season that I was mildly looking forward to was Itaruza na Kiss. When I say mildly, I mean that it perks my interest, but it’s I’m not raising my hopes about it too high. For some reason, I do tend to enjoy shoujo manga based shows like this compared to say something like Ouran. Now I’m not saying Ouran was bad, I actually do find it good, but it’s the simplicity of such a storyline from Itaruza na Kiss that I really enjoy.

From a bit of reading, this series is actually quite popular in Japan, but due to the author passed away before the series was finished. From the looks of the first episode, I can see myself enjoying this quite a bit, even though the first episode was more of a “heh” than a “haha” in terms of comedy. Of course it’s only the first episode so I’m sure the comedy will pick up as the series goes on. Animation wise it looks pretty good, and it’s handled by TMS Entertainment. However I can’t say that I’ve heard of the studio before, nor can name any of the titles they actually produced, but I’m hoping the quality sticks throughout the rest of the series.

Character wise everyone is pretty average so far. Kotoko is actually pretty cute and her character design reminds me a lot of Tsukimiya Ayu from Kanon. I guess you could say thatthis would be the mature side of Ayu? Or the more girly side to Ayu? At first when I heard her voice, I initally thought it was Horie Yui, but later on I realised it wasn’t and it’s in fact Mizuki Nana. It’s rather strange since I’m more used to her voicing mature roles, but this time around she’s going for a more girly role. Naoki is voiced by Hirakawa Daisuke (better known as Makoto from School Days) and he does an alright job of being an ass. Funny how things like that turn out. But let’s just hope we won’t see some nice boats in this series, lol.

Well it’s a little too early to see how things are going to turn out. I’ll give this a few more episodes before seeing if I want to continue blogging or not, but I’ll definitely keep watching.

Ending Sequence:

ED: “Kataomoi Fighter” by GO!GO!7188

What has it been with all the ending themes of the new season lately? They all seem to not appeal to me at all, including this one. It’s almost like they want most ending themes to suck for this entire season. Still the ED sequence is alright as it mainly feature Kotoko who is really cute in a lot of panning shots.

I saw ep one as well, and I think I’ll continue. Yeah, the story is simple, but at least it’s decent. Better than shows with nothing but fanservice.

It looks promising and may even fill the void left by Kimikiss Pure Rouge *thumbs up*
