To Love-Ru - 01

Opening Sequence:

OP: “forever we can make it!” by THYME

A very colourful OP sequence that covers all the girls in the To Love-Ru series and some Lala fanservice shots through into the mix, but I do like the opening theme as it’s quite catchy. Definitely prefer this over the Ed sequence and ending theme.

Impressions

A little behind in the new season watching, and I blame You’re Under Arrest Season 1 for that. It was quite addictive that I’ve put off Spring season, lol. Any here is one of the shows from my season preview list and I am not surprised by the amount of fanservice in the anime. Having read the manga as well, and enjoying as well, it’s actually great to see this in anime form as just like the OP sequence, the anime itself is really colourful. XEBEC are at the reins for this series so the animation is clean and pretty good, but I can see later down the track with more fanservice scenes to come, the quality will definitely stay where it is.

It’s rather strange going from a manga to anime as you could never guess what the characters sound like. To Love-Ru is no exception as Tomatsu Haruka does a good job as Lala, and Yahagi Sayuri is perfect for Haruna. Though I can’t say the same for Watanabe Akeno who voices Rito. I was expecting Rito’s voice to be a little more deeper but he sounds more brattyish in his voice. Well give it a few more episodes and I’ll probably get used to it all.

The first episode covers pretty much chapter 1 of the manga and it follows it pretty much spot on. Though I don’t remember about the spaceship crashing in front of Rito. With the series slated for 26 episodes it’ll be interesting to see how far into the manga they will go, but one thing for sure, I’ll definitely keep following the series and I’ll definitely be blogging this. Although it’s a little too early for me to think so, this has to be the most fanservicey show for the Spring season, but I’ll have to hold off until I watch Kanokon to determine that.

Also what the hell with the 4:3 aspect ratio. I would’ve surely thought this would be widescreen. Well BS-i is airing this in another 3 weeks which will hopefully be widescreen, though I more hope that someone will sub the widescreen version.

Ending Sequence:

ED: “Lucky Tune” by SANTOS ANNA

I can’t quite put my finger on why I don’t like the ending theme as much as the opening theme. The ED sequence is full of Lala fanservice but with the kaleidoscope of circles going around it’s rather distracting. Perhaps the DVD versions will just have panning shots?

No, no spaceship - she just jumped down in front of him, and when her father’s guards showed up they took off running. I’m hoping THIS show stays more on target with the source manga than some I can name (Hayate, Negima)… since I found the manga plenty entertaining, and less filler-filled than the first and less screwed up than the second (which also had a third and a series of OVAs).

I believe he meant the spaceship which came crashing down when Rito was confessing to Haruna at the school.
