Allison to Lillia - 01

Opening Sequence:

OP: “Tameiki no Hashi” by Kuricorder Quartet and Yukawa Shione

With the OP sequence mainly containing a lot of flying scenes, it goes well with the symphonic sounds of the opening theme itself. Very nice and soothing but gives feeling of a journey that is to be unfolded.

Impressions

So I’m kicking off the Spring season with something that isn’t on my list of Spring season preview and it’s none other than Allison to Lillia. I did a bit of quick researching before watching this and found out the story is written by the same author as Kino no Tabi. At first this perked my interest, and the fact that this is a Madhouse production, but that was all diminished after watching this first episode. I can’t say that I was entirely entertained after this episode especially with the really slow start, but hey, this is the first episode after all. The first half I thought it was going to be all slice of life, but it seemed to have dragged on quite a bit.

However once we moved into the later half of the episode, things got a bit more interesting. The mention of a treasure that could end the war (this is set in the 1940’s) and some shady looking men taking away the old man was when I started to actually pay attention to what was going on. Character wise Allison appears to be the most straightforward and most interesting compared to Will, who seems rather dull and laid back. Even though Allison is voiced by Mizuki Nana, I had a hard time picking her voice out.

Animation wise I find to be a bit below Madhouse’s usual standard, but I get the feeling that this is geared towards more of a young audience than the more matured minds, or those who are looking for more action. Though I’m more of a split between those two types. And speaking of two, this series is actually split into two stories, with the first half covering Allison and Will’s story which is set in the 1940s, where the second half is the post-war era with Lillia and her boyfriend. Well it’s too early to even judge how this series will go, but I think it will be harder to judge in the next few episodes since the series itself has two stories. Either way I will continue watching this, assuming anyone picks it up for subbing but this is not something I’d blog about.

Ending Sequence:

ED: “Sayonara no Omajinai” by Kuricorder Quartet and Matsumoto Sou

Not much to say about the ending theme, but the ED sequence does show us two other characters that Allison and Will know and we’ll probably see them in the next few episodes.

Yeah, I will be expecting a bit from this series since I really like Kino no Tabi and this series has the same writer.

I’ve only seen the trailer for this one so far… very much reminded me of the old “Tintin” cartoon series, particularly the music and era of aircraft.

Hope someone does pick it up for subbing.
