Clannad DVD Vol 3

If there is anything I enjoy collecting other than figures, it would have to be DVDs. Or more specifically the Japanese domestic releases as they come with awesome goodies that you can’t compare to the US releases, or even the Australian releases. And so to add to my collection of DVDs which I probably will never watch, Clannad Limited Edition Volume 3.

You know I always find it amusing how particular anime series bring Limited Edition and Regular Editions as when I look a few months down the track, they are still easily available. But with the staggering growth of popularity that Clannad has gained, it may be different in this case. Volume 3 has brought us some wonderful goodies which the Clannad fan would love.

First of all, when the Amazon package arrived at the doorstep, I thought it was rather strange how the box was larger than usual. Upon opening I realised that it contained a box to hold your DVD collection in. Sweet. One of the downsides to getting the boxes like these is the cardboard inserts that come with it is that they usually come with the same pictures as the DVD cover and it seems such a waste to throw it out. The box itself is gorgeous with the sakura prints all over it and instead of being all smooth and shiny, it’s quite rough.

The DVD cover itself. This cover had to be about Fuko as Volume 3 covers episodes 7-9, and boy was that such a beautiful ending to Fuko’s arc. I still remember coming close to tears when Tomoya and Nagisa remembered Fuko. Again the cover is another distant picture, which I’m kind of not fond of, however it does have it’s artistic sense.

Besides the box to hold your precious collection, one of the other extras that come with Volume 3 is this booklet. It just so happens to be the transcript for episode 1 and it has noted scribbled on particular lines. I would have taken photos of the content but holding the book and camera is not an easy task.

If you became a Fuko fan after watching her arc, and want your own starfish, well fear not! Volume 3 also comes with a corkboard (is that what it’s called?) cutout of a starfish with Fuko printed on it. So a starfish and Fuko in one, what else could you ask for? I guess the other bit you could use as a drawing stencil if you suck at drawing starfish, lol.

As of late, R2 DVDs have been pretty cheap for me. Though that is both thanks to me having a job, and the Australian dollar being as strong as it is. $1 AUD is pretty much ¥100 give or take, and I paid ¥5,624 for Volume 3, so roughly $56 AUD. Plus buying through Amazon Japan is pretty cheap considering they take off about 15% off the retail price. So if you want a copy of Volume 3, get it here at Amazon Japan.

Kick ass! Fuko is cool, but I like Kyou and Nagisa more. Hopefully they’ll have some of their goods in future DVDs :3.

M12’s last blog post..I got an RX-7… toy

That Fuuko Starfish corkboard thing is actually a coaster lol
Also, I love the distant shots; the background is the star for me.

I love the extras that the Clannad DVDs are getting :o) More companies need to start using Super Jewel cases - they’re so much nicer. The only thing I wish they did different is make the artbox bigger so that it can hold the extra books that come with the LE releases since there’s no real way to hold them together with the DVDs. Either that or make a separate box for the books. And, like you, I had to reluctantly throw the cardboard insert that came with Volume 3 also since there was no convenient way to keep it.

As for R2 DVDs being cheaper for you, it feels a whole lot more expensive to me since the USD > JPY exchange rate has been going down the drain as of late (-_-;) (102 yen to $1.00 USD). Maybe it’s just me being spoiled since the exchange rate was rather good up until recently (120 yen to $1.00 USD a little over 6-8 months ago).

“And so to add to my collection of DVDs which I probably will never watch…”

I like how you phrased that :o) Sounds exactly like me, sadly. Makes you wonder why you even buy them in the first place huh?

M12: I’m hoping for more Kyou goodies.

Zeroblade: LOL really? I should probably actually read the content list rather than assume.

Lunatic_sae: Jewel Cases definitely look more slick and shiny. But I do have to agree that the artbox should be bigger. I really have no place to put the extras that come with the DVDs so I just leave them as they are stacked on my shelves, lol.

That’s just how economics work right now. The Aussie dollar is really strong and has been for the past year or so. But of course this won’t last forever and it will eventually have to go down again. I’m just hoping it’s not too soon.

The last R2 DVD I actually sat and watched was Da Capo Second Season Vol 2. After that I got lazy and I continue to buy the DVDs because I like collecting :)

LOL, as Zeroblade mentioned, the corkboard of Fuko is a coaster :o) Although, could you really see yourself putting a cold, wet drink on Fuko’s face? (>_<)

Oh Sweet god. I have a bad feeling that if I keep reading your blog Im going to end up buying that sort of stuff too.

Thank god for the Aussie Dollar! >_<

Wait, have you ordered ONLY the DVD?

I want to ask about how it was packed, because I made a 1-8 order and I’d like to know how solid that box is.

And Amazon Japan doesn’t give 15% off, but 26%. :D

    Does it have english Subtitles?

  10. 10 Adun Aug 11th, 2008 at 12:26 pm

Fabrice: No these do not contain english subtitles.
