You know I would be very interested to see how Hayate would cope with someone of his caliber, but without the debt thing. With this episode I was hoping for exactly that but to my disappointment it wasn’t like that at all. Instead we got something a little less conflict oriented and more bonding between Hayate and Nagi and all of that is thanks to Mecha Butler 13. 13 would be the refined version of Hayate as he knows exactly everything to serve Nagi and those around him, but he could never be better in Hayate in regards to the bond between him and Nagi.

Impressions
Come to think of it, this is probably the most regular, semi-serious overtone that we’ve seen in Hayate no Gotoku as a lot of the other episodes we’re more humour oriented with that mix of wackiness. Of course there was the humour in this episode but the matureness was stronger this time around. In fact an episode like this is good now and then given the amount of humour that is usually in Hayate no Gotoku. 13’s sacrifice was definitely a sad thing, but from the last screenshot, it may not be the end of him just yet. But given that we’re reaching the near end of the series, I doubt we’ll see him again.
Right at the start I laughed at the 300 movie that Nagi was watching, but what it really needed was the spartan kick Hayate no Gotoku style. The other was seeing The Matrix reference and I’m not sure what the third one was supposed to be. I think it would be great if we saw some more parody references to things in the Western culture such as 300 or the Matrix. A bit of Maria fanservice this episode as well. Neko mimi maid outfit FTW, but the bigger surprise was her maid outfit falling off.
Oh man I so can’t wait for the next episode, Hinagiku and possibly a love letter. Of course this being Hayate no Gotoku it’ll turn out to be something else. Still I can’t wait.

Yes, but what fanservice it was. Much, much better than the pool/spa one. It’s interesting to see how 13 here is like Hayate… but minus the frailties and things that keep him ‘human’ and likeable to Nagi and the others. Which, given this is a love action comedy, works against him as a character.
Now, to look forward to more Hinagiku. Mmm…. Hina.
Maria in Lum’s tiger-striped bikini from Urusei Yatsura was pretty funny, but I’m sure 90% of the references in Hayate go right over my head. This wasn’t a bad episode, but 13’s sacrifice at the end just seemed off to me somehow, like the writers needed to get him out of the picture and couldn’t think of a good way to do it. It’s sad to think there are only a few episodes left now, but I guess at least I’ll still have the manga to continue to get my Hayate no Gotoku fix.
