H20 ~Footprints in the Sand~ – 08

I have two things to say about this episode, awesomely terrible and terribly awesome. If you are wondering WTF about that statement, then that’s exactly what I think of this episode. Recently H20 has taken a bit more of a serious character development with both Hayami and Hotaru and a lot of things got resolved pretty quickly but it also brought up other questions. With the episode titled Otoha, I thought we would see a bit more on Hotaru and Hinata, but instead we have the entire world tuned upside down and enter into the crazy world of Otoha.

Impressions

That isn’t to say that all of this was a waste of time, it’s more of a welcome break from the somewhat recent drama build up of the last few episodes, though that can also be perceived as a bad thing since it stops any further development on the Hinata side of things. Definitely plenty of laughs throughout this episode such as Takuma’s uncle, Yui being the bad guy (and the Hatsune Miku parody) and the little quirks that Otoha does to Takuma. But of course there is still the fanservice such as Hotaru’s cleavage, and the three girls in maid outfits, and of course there was Hamaji’s little spout, assuming you’re into the trap thing.

Eventually of this did lead to some kind of plot or some kind of resolvement. As stated in Hotaru’s picture book, Otoha stayed with the Promised One until the very end, and that she certainly did. But the whole concept of Takuma being the chosen one has kind of lost it’s meaning as I was hoping for something a bit more than him trying to save the world from being abnormal. In the end, all is good in the world but it’s rather sad now that Otoha has now disappeared as I really enjoyed the scenes of her taking Takuma to the ocean as those are some of the best scenes in this entire series. Her last words that he has to look at someone else other than her would obvious mean either Hayami or Hotaru.

The problem I see now is that do we have enough story until the end? From the looks of things, most of Hayam’s and Hotaru’s arcs are pretty much cleared and now Otoha’s story has just finished. Next episode seems to be focused on Takuma’s uncle but I don’t see the relevance to the overall story. At this point, I think the series may have just hit it’s high point, but I’m hoping to believe we’ll still get some much needed drama for the ending.

Also I wish I had a sister like Hotaru :P

I had to force myself to watch this episode. It was quite frankly, one of the stupidest anime episodes I have ever seen.
