Clannad – 18 (this week, Clannad OST)

February 26, 2008 | Author: | In: Anime Blogs, Clannad

Firstly, Tomoya is a lucky guy to have 4 girls cook for him, even though he was suspended. Honestly, if something like that happened to me I couldn’t choose between them all, well except Fuko as those starfish shaped foods look pretty lethal. But if I would have to choose, it would have to be Kotomi. Anyway, despite Tomoya being suspended, we do get quite a development between him and the other girls, especially Ryou and Tomoyo, but honestly, a lot sure went by in this episode.

Firstly we went through some Kyou and Ryou, where they took Tomoya into one of those relationship testers. Though I think we pretty much saw the end when they got the “Friends” sign as you can see that Tomoya and Ryou could never be anything more than that. Since the start of the series, the two have never really been close compared to Tomoya and Kyou. The differences you can see is the attitude the two sisters take when they approach Tomoya, and because of that, Kyou stands out ahead. But it does make one wonder if she didn’t have some underlying feeling for Tomoya herself and by the end of this episode, it’s still somewhat not clear.

But it doesn’t stop there as we also take a look into Tomoyo’s story, and boy did that go by fast as well. Not only did we get Tomoyo participating in various events throughout the school, but we also go some back story as well. When I heard that Takafumi jumped off a bridge, I thought that was rather strange as I thought he was involved in a car accident. Well my memory is a bit foggy so I’m not entirely clear on it. One thing about Tomoyo though, she is pretty strong in the way that she realises Tomoya’s true feelings and she doesn’t let that affect her ability to play in the tennis match. But the bigger shock for the girls would be Tomoya’s reaction when it came to protecting Nagisa, and surely that hit them pretty hard.

Although we’re given the impression that Tomoyo’s, Kyou and Ryou’s stories are finished, I’m willing to believe that we can still work something in despite the unraveling of Tomoya’s true feelings. Even though this is episode 18, I feel that we can still get something out of them, but also think we won’t have enough time for Nagisa’s story. Damn I really wish KyoAni made this 3 cour instead of 2. One thing I’ll miss from this point on is Kyou and Tomoyo’s little bickerings as there’s something about these two girls having a little competition that makes it so hot.

Next episode it looks like we’re taking a look into Tomoya’s side of things with his father. Also it seems that he may be confronted with one of the girls about something. Can’t wait for the next episode.

Merchandise of the Week

This would have to be one of the first pieces of Clannad merchandise that I have purchased in Japan. There was certainly a lot of things I wanted Clannad related, but I held off until later to hit the stores of Akihabara. However I didn’t purchase this in Akihabara. In fact I bought this in an Animate store that I saw in Kyoto and knew I had to buy this straight away.

Back in those days, I rarely bought CDs, but when I bought this, I had a feeling of satisfaction, but I’m glad I bought it as it really is a nice soundtrack. A definite buy for the Clannad fan and it’s something you won’t regret buying.

Ah, I wish I were able to get that. The OST is indeed wonderful, and the cover art (by Goto-p I think) is incredible too.

Zeroblade’s last blog post..So I haven’t posted much…

Your memory isn’t foggy. I cleared her arc the other day and Tomoyo said he jumped on a road so a car would hit him.

That OST has very nice box. ^^ Good it’s not limited. :D

M12: It’s alright if you want to do a plug-in. Though I’ve been pretty flat out that I haven’t had much time to read the usual stuff I do.

Zeroblade: I’m sure you could probably order a copy off Amazon Japan. CDs are usually well stocked in Japan, unless it was a limited run.

.tomi: Oh good, then I’m not suffering from memory loss after all, lol.

Thanks. Yeah I just plugged it there, because I’m wondering if anyone else noticed that semi “jump cut” in episode 18…

Fiona: Clannad is currently not licensed for a US release. Your only option is to download the fansub version if you really want to watch this.
