Bamboo Blade - 16

The first half of this episode covers much Kirino love but as well as how close Saya is with Kirino, goes to show that close friends really know each other well. I was kind of hoping for something a bit more serious or slice of life with Kirino finding out her mother collapsed last episode, but it appears not to be anything too serious which is good in a way so it doesn’t detour from the current pacing. It was also pretty funny seeing Kirino’s mother being all energetic despite being sick, and we can see where Kirino gets her vigour from.

Impressions

Though I do admire Kirino’s strong mentality when it came to the tournament, given her mother’s recent sickness. But I guess it also means that it wasn’t all that serious, and it made her stronger and much more focused with the task at hand. Still, there were parts where you think she is fine, and some where she is worried about something. Luckily she has her best friend Saya to cheer her up. Really, those two are just the best, plus I don’t think we’ll ever get to see Saya shove food into Kirino again. The moment between Miyako and Dan was lovely and probably the best so far between the two. It is rather a shame that Miyako hasn’t won a match just yet, but hopefully we’ll see that change in the next few episodes.

Things are starting to heat up now that we are at this point of the series. Next episode will be a deciding factor for the kendo club to see if they will continue onto the nationals. Of course we can see a showdown between Konishi and Tamaki, but with Tamaki being locked up, thanks to Konishi’s fangirls, it won’t be easy for her to get out. From the looks of the preview, seems that Tamaki will have a slight disadvantage with a bruise on her foot. But from the rumours of Konishi’s opponents having those misfortunes, obviously it would be from the fangirls, but I wonder if Konishi knows about it herself. With all that evil look, it gives the impression that she does know about it, but I’m betting that she doesn’t know about it at all.

So yes, next episode will definitely be an exciting one and we’ll get to see Tamaki probably even more serious, or even better, angry about what happened. Reimi also appears to drop by, and more than likely take pictures of Miyako again. Oh and with the first DVD release of Bamboo Blade, they have redone the OP sequence. After seeing that I wished they used that OP sequence for the airing instead. Oh well, I might actually end up buying the DVDs in Japan assuming I’ll have chas to spare for DVDs.
