true tears - 01

Opening Sequence:

OP: “Reflectia” by eufonius

At first the OP caught me off guard as I really wasn’t expecting it to be a eufonius song, and I generally do like eufonius songs regardless. The OP sequence itself gives us a glimmer at the quality of the animation and it’s looking pretty good.

Impressions

Initially when I heard about a true tears anime, I was excited about it. But when I found out that it doesn’t use the characters from the game nor even the same story line, I was certainly disappointed. Even after the first episode I’m still terribly disappointed. I’m not quite sure what it is, but within the first 10 minutes in, I found myself pretty bored of the series so far, though that may account to the story starting off really slowly and this really is only the first episode. Although dedicated to character introduction, we can see some merit in the story so far with Shinichirou and his dream to produce a picture book. Hey this almost sounds like Mahoraba, but with less laughs and no multi-personality landlords. So far though there appears to be a somewhat romance tangent but I do think we can see some kind of development later on.

Although I did say that the animation is looking to be good, I however find the use of CG people for the distant shot to be rather cheesy. If they could put the effort into making the characters look decent, at least do the rest, but that is only a minor complaint. The soundtrack itself I find to be rather nice, but I still prefer H2O’s soundtrack over this one. That’s also not surprising since right now, I prefer H2O over true tears since H2O had a better first episode in terms of development, characters, and music as well. But I’m willing to give this series a chance to see what kind of direction it will be heading in. Noe’s comment about giving up on her tears will probably come into play for the story as well as Shinichiro’s picture book.

So given that I wasn’t really impressed by the first episode, and if the series keeps up with the slow paced storylione, I’m more than likely find myself bored of this series real quick. So this is definitely a series I won’t be blogging about, but I will give the next few episodes a chance to see how things turn out.

Ending Sequence:

ED: “Sekai no Namida” by Yuuki Aira

The ED theme I didn’t like it as much as the OP theme, but with the ending sequence it was rather strange seeing chibified versions of the characters. But I did laugh when I saw the black chicken’s ghost.
