Minami-ke Okawari - 01

Opening Sequence:

OP: “Kokoro no Tsubasa” by Satou Rina, Inoue Marina, & Chihara Minori

The OP theme had certainly taken me by surprise as the first season was more upbeat and catchy, where this time it felt quite down to earth which this series is not. But it works similar to Genshiken 2’s OP in which it brings something rather unexpected, but awesome.

Impressions

Having claimed that Minami-ke was the Best Comedy for 2007, I was wondering if Minami-ke Okawari could uphold that title. Rest assured, it has. Just like the first season, we get the same quirky yet simplistic humour, yet has it taken it to a higher plane of enjoyment? From a first episode point of view I would say no as I believe that the later episodes of Minami-ke were quite EPIC in humour. However Minami-ke Okawari has taken us that little step further in the fanservice, but as well in the level of randomness.

With asread at the reins, known for bringing us Shuffle!, we see the minor differences in style not just in animation, but also in the situational style. I loved how they monochromed everything when Chiaki was on alert and the more up close shots of talking heads, but I do miss seeing Bible Black styled eyes and the tear shaped mouths. The animation itself is something left to be questionable for me at this stage. At this point I do prefer the style of Doumu’s production (surprising as they’re the ones who brought us Cabbage Love) as it was simplistic, cute, and the style of humour suited the animation. It will take some getting used to of asread’s animation style, such as Chiaki’s hair which at times, or all the time looks to be of a gradient. But with this new style, we do get to see the lovely skin of the three Minami sisters, so it was a good way to start off the series. Not to mention that Fujioka seeing Kana naked was the biggest highlight of the episode.

With many people not looking forward to what was available to us for the Winter season, we have found salvation amongst Minami-ke Okawari. Although those who are starting off with Minami-ke Okawari may find it a little confusing, but those will be qualmed after a few episodes. So a definite watch this season, though blogging this is on the fence at the moment, but I might try for a different style of blogging if I do go ahead. But in the mean time, I want more already.

Ending Sequence:

ED: “Sono Koe ga Kiki Takute” by Satou Rina, Inoue Marina, & Chihara Minori

So far the ending theme and ED sequence feel out of place as Minami-ke is more light hearted. Not sure what asread were trying with this ED sequence, but it seems similar to Shuffle’s ED sequence. I still prefer the OP and ED of the first season, but we’ll see how much the new ones will grow on me.

At first I didnt like the animation style but the comedy and seiyuu are the same as the first season - turned out to be better than I thought it would.

lol a bug in the first episode…

anyway… so far so good… i still like it… but i find the first season’s chiaki-sama to have more moeness… and i find that in first season… haruka looks more mature…

anyway… like it is suppose to be… a comedy slice of life… and i guess i could still become the best comedy
