As I mentioned int he last episode, KyoAni sure have a way with going from one type of mood to another in that one instance. Well we see that once again in this episode with Kotomi’s sudden shock and break down. It was nice to see how everyone was getting along so well together but then suddenly Kotomi feels so distant. This episode brought about many clues to Kotomi’s hidden secrets and it sure came in fast, but it’s obvious now that Tomoya was indeed friends with Kotomi when they were kids.

Impressions
With what we saw this episode, obviously there was a fire of some sort at Kotomi’s house, but I wonder what the significance is of the rabbit, the deer , and the black butterfly. The only thing I can speculate is that these are the last few things that Kotomi saw during the fire, but I’m sure it’s something more than that. Now that Tomoya has realised that they were childhood friends, it makes me wonder if Kotomi already knew that they were childhood friends, but she kept it hidden from Tomoya. But now that Tomoya knows, I can’t seem to speculate what he will do about it now. Seeing fromt he preview, the garden of Kotomi’s house plays another significant part in her story but I guess we’ll find out in the next episode. One other thing to note is that in the preview, we hear that Kotomi has been offered a chance to study abroad. This is somewhat an indicator that this could be how they will transition from Kotomi’s arc to the next one. I really do hope they DON’T go for that option as I enjoy watching Kotomi being a part of the group.
The scene of Kotomi surprising Tomoya has brought my attention to one thing that I’ve noticed over the course of the series. All the girls seemed to rather well endowed, of course not that it’s a bad thing, because if this really was based off an h-game, I’d be more than happy, but I’d be more happier if Kotomi would surprise me like that, lol. Still plenty of funny moments this episode, but the biggest WTF would have to be Fuko’s appearance. Herlittle appearance sequence was quite humourous, but cute at the same time. But why did they suddenly bring back Fuko in just for this one moment? She mentions that there will be a day they reunite, so I’m guessing at the near end of the series we’ll be seeing Fuko once again. Though with her sudden appearance, it kind of lessens the impact of her returning again later, and if she makes any more random appearances, it will lessen it even more.
So I’ve finally caught up with the series from the Autumn 2007 season, so I can only hope to continue to be up to date with the new series for Winter. Anyway this week’s Clannad Merchandise of the Week will be in a separate post following this one. Click here to check it out.

You might be interested in a short story called “The Dandelion Girl,” which is the origin of Kotomi’s line “day before yesterday I saw a rabbit, yesterday a deer, and today you.” I can’t help but sense that this short story is a foreshadowing of what might happen in this arc, though of course we can’t be sure till we see it.
Clannad is in fact non-H, as it was released on console first. It’s Key’s first game that began as totally non-H, actually.
I totally agree with you about Fuko’s reappearance. It felt out of place and lessens the impact of her returning in a significant way at a future date. I’m not just a grumpy old man as Owen accuses me of!

I loved Fuko´s appearance. It´s nice to know she´s okay now, at the end of last arc I thought she disappeared because her condition got worse. Looks like she´s back on her feet.

Mike: That’s rather interesting to know that the line came from that short story. From what I’ve read through of that link a lot of parts are relevant to Kotomi’s story so far and it does seem to be a forecast of what’s to come. Although we could still expect some kind of twist.
Correction, Clannad was in fact a non h-game, but it was released on PC first before going to console. Trust me, I know my fair share about Key games
But I was just saying that if it WAS based on a h-game, I’d love it still.
Grumpy old man, lol. Then I guess I’ll be joining that fray.
myu: Fuko is still in her comma, that appearance of Fuko was just her outer body spirit, the same one that appeared before Tomoya and Nagisa. But of course it could be seen as a premonition that she will come back to meet Tomoya and Nagisa once again, but in physical form.

I meant that when Fuko´s body weakens so does her spirit form. That´s why she disappeared.
