Hayate no Gotoku! - 36

Just like last episode, this episode focuses on a specific character that hasn’t had, and it’s none other than Klaus. Now I wouldn’t say that Klaus is a favourite character of mine, but he does add a good dose of humour to the show with the random bits he had throughout the series so far, but for an episode to be focused on him can turn out pretty good as well. Of course the cause of all this humour started with Tama, another character who hasn’t had much screen time either.

Impressions

Since this episode focuses on Klaus’s problem of being useful to the Sanzenin family, or more specifically Nagi, I didn’t expect much to happen throughout the episode as Klaus isn’t the type of character that gets into weird situations like Hayate. But as a senior member of the cast, it’s good to see he has the experience of doing what he does best, and that is being a butler. So he ends up staying with the Sanzenin family because he knows how to iron newspapers……right. But I do love how the flashed back to Klaus looking after Nagi as she was growing up.

Humour wise this was pretty hilarious. I had to pause for a moment once I heard Klaus doing the whole Shinji thing with the Lance of Longinus stuck in him, and once again when the topic of AT fields being brought up. As far as I can remember, this is the first Eva references that they have made. Hayate parodying Belldandy was definitely another moment this episode, yet I can’t believe how fitting it is for Hayate. But then he still does have that feminine side to him after all. As funny as it was, I also found it to be rather creepy, since I’m a Belldandy fan.

Next episode looks to be focused on another Ayumu vs Nagi and the whole thing of a normal girl. Normal? There’s not such thing as normal in Hayate no Gotoku! Also love the Hinagiku fanservice shot. I wish she would serve me some buns.

I recall there being quite a few Eva references earlier in the series. For instance, Hayate perching on an oddly-shaped rock in the bath area while humming An Ode to Joy and commenting how it was the mankind’s greatest achievement… Well, I don’t blame you for forgetting; I tend to forget a lot of stuff in episodic series as well…
