Winter 2008 Season Preview

December 31, 2007 | Author: | In: Anime Blogs, Season Previews

With the Fall 2007 season finally over, it’s time to take a look at what the new year, or more specifically what the new season will bring us. Having a look through Moonphase and moetron, this Winter season doesn’t have a lot to offer compared to Fall season. Also not to mention that some series have already started, but I’ll see whether I can catch up on those series or not. Also since the season’s list appears to be very small, my selection of what to blog will also be very small since I already have the continuing series from the Fall season such as Clannad, and Bamboo Blade, and Hayate no Gotoku is still going.

  Ah Megami-sama! Tatakau Tsubasa
Air Date: 8th December

This is the third season, well technically it’s an OVA, of the AMG series which I love. Although it has been aired already, I have yet to watch it so I do hope I can get around to watching it.

Air Date: 3rd January

H20 ROCKS YOUR SOUL! Seriously, when I saw the promo clip on Random Curiosity, I was like WTF. Well this is another visual novel turned anime, but I actually like the original artwork from the game, plus the protagonist this time is a blind guy.

  Rosario to Vampire
Air Date: 3rd January

This is GONZO’s latest work, and this time it’s a harem series. Wait, what was the last series that GONZO did that was a harem series? I don’t know, I usually can’t remember stuff like that. Anyway, a guy enrols into a school for monsters, meets beautiful girls and gets saved by them. Not sure if I’ll blog this since it’s on the same night as Clannad, but the premise of the story sounds pretty poor anyway.

Kimi ga Aruji de Shitsuji ga Ore de
Air Date: 5th January

When I read the summary of the plot on AnimeSuki forums, my first thoughts were He Is My Master, except it’s reverse roles. Again based off a eroge, but it looks to be interesting as there is an all star cast for this one, plus this is a Saturday night show, Saturday night ones tend to be good.

  true tears
Air Date: 5th January

I remember listing this from WAY back in the Spring 2007 season preview, but it never came about and I was mildly disappointed. However I am once again disappointed by the change in the character design for the anime as it is NOTHING like the actual game itself. Reason as well is that it’s a whole original story with original characters. With a premise like that, it doesn’t make me very excited about the series at all.

  Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
Air Date: 5th January

It’s rather surprising that the 2nd season came by so fast. Well it’s on the watch list as I enjoyed the first season, but more than likely not blog it since I didn’t blog the first season.

Air Date: 5th January

Shigofumi is about a girl called Fumika, and she delivers the letters of people who are dying to their loved ones. Based off a series of light novels, this reminds me of Shinigami no Ballad. Whilst I enjoyed SnB, I’m not sure what to expect of Shigofumi so I’m open to anything for this one.

  Minami-ke ~Okawari~
Air Date: 6th January

The first season of Minami-ke I thought was absolutely awesome and was one of the best series for the Fall season. So I was rather surprised to hear that a second season was being produced, straight after the first season, but also by a different animation company I believe. Was there something flawed in the first season just like that of Futakoi that it requires to be remade by a different company? Still, it’ll be interesting to see what changes have been made so it’s a definite watch.

Air Date: 7th January

Now this is a series that has been long overdue for a second season. I enjoyed the first season maybe because of the themes it focused on such as the relationship between the girls, their caretakers, and bits of their past. The whole action thing with guns and being assassins also added to the awesomeness of this series.

Really, there isn’t anything more to say about ARIA. It’s the third season and I’m totally over the moon about there being a third season. I just hope that this also goes for 26 episodes as that would be sweet as.
Blogging: Definite

You may have noticed in my list that there is only one definite show that I will be blogging, and that is ARIA. So far not much of the shows show much interest to me that I actually want to blog it, but like every other season, my work conditions change, thus requiring me to change my style of blogging. 2008 will be a busy one for me so it’ll probably be less blogging for the start of the year in terms of anime episodes. But I may try some quick blogging where it’s a short post rather than a full post.

Also this list doesn’t cover all the shows that are coming out for the Winter season. Check out some of the other anime blogs out there and see some of the other series that they are possibly going to cover.

Aria, Gunslinger Girls, and AMG is a definite watch for me in the new season. H2O looks promising as is Shigofumi and probably pick up on zetsubou sensei if I ever get around to the first season.

Considering that the cast and studio for Gunslinger Girl are changed from the first season, the only show that I see as a definite success is Aria.

Though I also have hopes for Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, that is, if someone actually keeps up with subbing it (I’m actually still waiting for episode 12 of the first season). I have considered watching it raw, but most of the jokes would go WAY over my head.

Also plan to watch H2o, True Tears, and Shigofumi.

Wow, I didn’t know another season of Gunslinger was on the way. I’m looking forward to this one most. H2O and Aa Megami-sama! sound good as well. I’ve been wanting to watch Aria because all I’ve heard are good things. Looking forward to reading your blog.

Wow, I find it rather surprising how ARIA’s popularity has increased over the year as I remember last year, no one seemed to talk about it. Well I can only expect great things from ARIA, and this could possibly be the last season since the manga is going to end with the next volume.

suguru: LOL, I didn’t realise there was going to another To Heart 2 OVA thing to be aired. But if there’s more Sasara then all good by me.

Really.. Aria ending with the next season? how many volumes would that bring the series up to?

January 1st, 2008 at 12:28 am

ARIA will conclude at 12 volumes, with the last tankobon out early 2008 (feb/mar). i’m hazarding a guess that ORIGINATION will run for 13 eps, and a possible season 4 to conclude the entire series. that’s what i’m really hoping for anyway, for HAL to take it all the way to the finish line! pretty sad thing, but yeah! totally anticipating the anime!

Ah, i just love your preview posts… gears me up for a whole new season of 2D!

Hiyuu’s last blog post..Shows to catch in Jan 2008!

Hijiko: 12 volumes. Seems rather short, but Amano Kozue has spent quite a long time on ARIA. 4 years I think it is.

petrichloric: Perhaps. I do know that there is still a lot of chapters that the previous two seasons have missed out and there is enough material for ORIGINATION to take on 26 episodes again. What I would like to see is ORIGINATION take on 26 episodes, and the last one be another OVA.

Hiyuu: This was actually the quickest Season Preview that I ever wrote, lol.

I was looking forward to the second GSG series until I realised that not only had Yuuka basically retired from voice acting, but they’d gone and changed the WHOLE cast. Then again, what am I saying, I haven’t even seen the first season…
Zetsubou 2nd season I’ll look forward to, although I’ll have to leech season 1 from someone.
And what, a THIRD Aria series?
