Da Capo II - 10

So in the end, Yoshiyuki did end uprushig back home, but not because of Minatsu, but because of Otome. However this is still a major catalyst between Yoshiyuki and Koko since Koko is now mad at Yoshiyuki for not saying a word to her before running off. Of course being mad is one thing, but at this point, I think she will start doubting even more whether her and Yoshiyuki really are a couple, and eventually I can see them breaking up very soon. With so much happening now, especially with Minatsu’s identity pretty much revealed and as well as Otome’s fainting, Yoshiyuki will eventually spend less time with Koko and the distance between them will grow even further.

Impressions

Although I do think that Koko has every right to be mad, but the way I see it is that Yoshiyuki’s reason for rushing home was because of Otome, not Minatsu. Otome is much more closer to Yoshiyuki and in levels of reasoning, is higher than Minatsu. Who wouldn’t rush off back home if they found out something happened to their dear sister? Although if the reason was because of Minatsu, then I would have no qualms, especially with all the robot arguments from last episode. It would feel that Minatsu is taking Yoshiyuki away from Koko, and it would appear as if Yoshiyuki cares more for Minatsu than he does for Koko.

If there is one thing I can’t believe that happened this episode, it was the sudden story of Otome and her promise with Yoshiyuki. Having played Otome’s route, this scene, although minor, is still an important part in Otome’s story, yet we have so much focus on the robot side of things that this is definitely out of place. Now I’m all for any Otome screen time, as she hasn’t had much love throughout the series at all, but I do find it rather inappropriate to introduce this in another storyline. So much is has happened in this episode that nothing right now seems to connect together. We have the whole issue of robots and society, Otome’s fainting and her promise with Yoshiyuki, and Yoshiyuki and Koko’s deteriorating relationship.

Also I found it surprising that Sakura has taken back the necklace she gave Yoshyuki as it did give the premise of something major. This episode also has a lot shots of the sakura petals, and the sakura tree before Otome’s fainting. So it seems that the sakura tree may be involved with all that is happening, but that is still unclear at this point. But what is clear right now is Maya’s distaste for robots. I never knew that something like that would have happened to her as I always saw her as a side character, kind of like Akane, but less involved. So I can somewhat see her involved in the ending for Minatsu, but how, I’m unsure of.

So far I’m not pleased with the path that Da Capo II is taking. We already had two parallel stories: Koko and Minatsu, and now we somewhat have Otome and now Maya involved. With 3 episodes to go, I do wonder how things are going to play out, but it’s definitely set in concrete, we’re heading for a Minatsu ending.

I dropped DCII at this ep since the inertia of a Minatsu end was too much to avert a disastrous end. Hopefully DCIISS would fare better. :)
