Figure Gallery: Iriya Kana, another purple haired beauty

As promised, I’m starting to work through the figures that have piled up over the past few months, and to kick off this series of figure posts is one that I’ve wanted for quite a while, and only managed to get her way back in October during Animania. For those who don’t know, I have this BURNING MOÉ PASSION (does that even make sense?) for girls with long purple hair. The moment I saw her for sale, it was an instant buy. So joining into my small collection of purple haired beauties is none other than Iriya Kana from Iriya no Sora, UFO no Natsu. Hit the jump to check out the rest of the photos.

Just like previous Figure Gallery posts(it’s only been two posts like this so far, lol), no review or any comments about the figure. If I remember correctly, Iriya was released way back at the start of last year, and that was long before I even started blogging. So seeing a figure from long ago like this in my collection now is just wonderful. I’ve always had my eye on this Iriya figure, but I don’t actually remember the reason why I didn’t purchase her when she was first released. Also, this is the first figure photo shoot with the macro lens!

Now I said I wouldn’t comment on the figure, but I can’t resist the urge to at least say this: Kana would have to be one of the most top rated bishoujo’s in my entire collection, if not at the top. The large volume of purple hair, her well proportioned body yet slender figure, her faint smile and her sincere eyes staring at you. The way she has her right hand over her stomach, and her left hand as if playing with her hair, brings forth the femininity, and cuteness of the figure. So I’m happy I bought this figure of Iriya and I’m happy that she has now joined my small collection of purple haired figures. But with many more figures for me to look at and take photos of, I wonder how long she will stay at the top.

Photography Notes

Yes this is the first figure photo shoot outdoors with the shiny 60mm macro lens. Although the results of the macro lens are seen with the previous two posts of Hazuki and Manami, I did wonder how useful the macro lens is outdoors. To be honest, it was a lot harder than I anticipated. The fact that I have a static lens means I myself must adjust the distance between myself and the object. This got rather annoying since I was sitting on a patch of bark chippings, but worst of all, I couldn’t take the usual full scenario shots, hence I had to use the 18-55mm. What also made this photo shoot harder was that the tripod I normally use was too high, and the small tripod I bought a few weeks ago was too short. I really need to buy my own small form tripod one day and return the larger one to my friend.

So if you have the eyes of an eagle, you may notice a slight blur in some photos. Originally I didn’t want to post those photos, but some were just great shots I had to. Also to note, it was a REALLY bright day since I was by the beach. Iriya was photographed in the shade of trees, but it appears there wasn’t enough lighting after all, so some adjustments had to be done in Photoshop.

Location wise, this was taken at Balmoral beach, which is located in Sydney’s north shore. Balmoral is one of the more quieter beaches around and I just so happened to went there with my family on Sunday as an outing before Christmas, as we all had different plans for the rest of the week. So yes, I took figures along on a family outing and took photos. I also took random pictures of the beach as well.

I plan to head back to the beach during my holidays as I do have some figures I would like to take there. So far the weather in Sydney has been random, and I mean really RANDOM. I just pray there will be enough sunny days to take photos. So look forward to more figure photography posts.

Ah, Iriya. How nostalgic. I remember she was the very reason I got into Co2A’s artwork in the first place.

I would have gotten this if I were already collecting figures back when this was still a freshly released figure.

I wish for sunny days for you Adun, nothing like constantly fluctuating weather to ruin a figure shoot. Lol, taking your figure with you on your family outing, nice. Hope you had a nice time at the beach, looks like a nice sunny day based on your pictures.

Great photos as always. I love characters with purple hair, too. I wished they’d make a figurine of Nanami from Lamune :3. Does anyone know if it exists?

I remember this figure was already a top rare item when I started collecting figures, more than one year ago… haaa Iriya, such a pretty girl with purple hair ^^
If there wasn’t such many figures popping out nowadays, I would still be looking for this one. But well… I am more turned toward future figures now.

@M12 : hoooo that would be a nice figure, Nanami from Lamune ^^ I love this chara too hehe. The only Lamune figure I ever seen is Hikari (from GSC). And there are some trading figures with Nanami in.

nice picture, I love girls with purple hair also, moe~ :D
hmm seems like macro lens improves indoor alot, but not many on outdoor. But maybe again because you had issue with the static lens :D I believe you’ll get better!

Bubby: Capable outdoors, yes, getting the right shots with the macro, quite difficult.

Zeroblade: I’m not well versed in who the artists is, but I do like Iriya character designs though.

samejima: You should still be able to get one. It’s just a matter of finding one.

AS: It was indeed a VERY sunny day. So bright that I thought I was losing my eyesight because of the brightness.

M12: I would love a Nanmi figure, but as far as I know, there aren’t any around.

lu-k: I’m pretty sure you could find an Iriya at a bargain price. It is quite old, but I don’t think it was that popular back then.

ron~: Indoor yes since that is a controlled environment. Outdoor there are many factors to consider, such as the amount of light, the direction of lighting. The amount of colours in the background, is there a stable surface to shoot from, is the shooting platform high enough. The list goes on. I more than likely need a good all round tripod to use outdoors now, which I’ll have a look into soonish.

Yeah, lu-k, I’ve seen the trading figurines. However, I only want Nanami, so I didn’t buy it. Has anyone in Sydney got that figurine? I’m willing to buy it off anyone who may have two copies =).
