Sketchbook ~full color’S~ – 09

This was a rather interesting episode for me as I can relate to this from my final days of high school. The HSC (Higher School Certificate) exam period was a time of concentration, but also a lot of frustration. However it did bring about many interesting things when it came to actually studying, especially the whole asking people for study techniques. But just as this episode has shown, everyone have their own techniques to studying for an exam, but the best way is definitely what the club president had said, and that is to listen and class and review what you learnt at the end of the day.

Impressions

Personally I never did what the club president suggested, but then I didn’t really study all that much myself during my high school days. Uni though is totally different. The study aspect aside, there is also an underlying theme this episode, and that is what the future holds. I was a little weirded out when Sora spoke up like that and asked Nagisa why she studies, but I think the reply that Nagisa gave was very fitting of a sempai. The idea of her studying shows that she is working hard for her future, and it’s something that we all have to go through in our lives. Of course our reasons for study vary as we grow older as shown with Ao, who’s motivation to study is to beat a fellow classmate. I had those exact reasons in my early years of high school, and it did gradually change over the years from pleasing my parents (yeah, typical Chinese upbringing), to beating my fellow classmates, and then towards my future.

Moving on, Kate was just as wonderful as she was two episodes ago and is clearly becoming my favourite character out of this series. Though I can sympathize with Kate on learning kanji. I studied quite hard for Japanese 101, yet my friend put no effort and only got a score lower than me. Also katakana does get confusing as shown with Kate’s example, but I also get confused between “tsu” and “shi” in katakana in some printed material. Plus her attempts at tongue twisters was funny. Seeing Negishi being fooled with Hiyori’s tricks was pretty funny. I would’ve never thought of that kind of prank with an eraser.

Next episode seems to focus on Negishi, which will be rather interesting as he is quite a short tempered character, but in a good way. But it also seems that the camera girl will make another appearance.

Dunno if it’s a Japanese schooling thing or just anime representation, but I never studied like that in High School either. Actually, I practically slept through my entire senior english class and passed with flying colors.

Kate is going up on my list quick, but Sora still has the top spot for me. :D

Gluing lead back together lol, not exactly the brightest thing to do. Hiyori is quite the naughty girl lol ;p, and possibly why she is one of my favorites. Learning kanji is difficult to do, so my sympathy goes to Kate whose trying to learn something that is practically required for everything around her. My technique for knowing which is shi and tsu is through the character itself, with the bottom half of shi looking like a Nike swoosh and just knowing that lets me know which is tsu.
