Sketchbook ~full color’S~ - 08

As the series started, I always thought Ryou and Fuu were a little odd, but their small antics now and then brought humour to the show, but after this episode, they were just awesome. Normally I wouldn’t take notice of such characters in a series, but with Sketchbook being a rather slow-paced series, Ryou and Fuu make it pretty fast paced. Their ignorance of the obvious surely may seem weird in the eyes of Hazuki and Natsumi, but it simply means that thye are adding humour to their everyday lives. Plus it was funny seeing Hazuki and Natsumi’s reactions to Ryou and Fuu’s antics.

Impressions

Sora in the meantime is doing what she usually does, drinking tea and doing sketches. But this episode, she once again meets the camera girl from WAY back in episode 1. I was wondering whether Sora had finally managed to muster the courage to talk to strangers, but apparently not, but she is certainly shy about showing people her sketches. Still I find this episode to a be a very good comparison in two fields of artwork - photography and sketch drawings. Personally I can’t draw at all, but I am a photographer, and I usually carry my DSLR when wanting to do something big. Though I do wish I had a normal point and shoot at times. The difference it shows between the two arts is photography is what you see is what you get, but sketch drawing is an interpretation of things through the artist’s eyes and imagination. I think that is one thing the camera girl (don’t know her name just yet) learnt from Sora this episode, and by giving her the sketch, it’ll remind her of that lesson.

In the end, Sora meets up with Hazuki and Natsumi. Obviously her faith in her two eccentric sempai’s was right, but also after a day of sketching, it’s nice to see she joins her friends. Although I would say that this series is based on friendship, but that’s only a part of what this series is about. In fact it’s actually just a mixture of themes that we see in out everyday lives such as friendship, meeting new people, and coming to understand other people’s perspective. Still,I look forward to what else Sketchbook has to bring to us in the remaining episodes that are left for this season. Next episode appears to be studying for exam time.
