Sketchbook ~full color’S~ - 05

A day out with the cats has always been a treat in Aria, but here in Sketchbook, it has taken that one step further, this time the cats can talk! I’ve always wondered what it would be like to hear Aria-shachou, Hime-shachou and Maa-kun talking amongst themselves, but personally I think Mike, Haa, and Kuma have given us something much more than what Aria and company can offer. Seeing the world through the perspective of the cats is indeed intriguing, and to add it on top, it’s actually quite funny.

Impressions

Mike and Haa’s perception of Sora was definitely amusing, but even moreso that they know to goto Sora’s brother if they want proper food. But I reckon it was the seiyuu’s who brought us life to these very cats. Nakata Jouji as Kuma was just perfect since his voice has that overwhelming effect, but also with the use of formal words, he makes it sound that much better. Kaneda Tomoko and Itou Shizuka also did a great job as Mike and Haa, especially their reactions to the things that Kuma was doing.

Another good aspect of this episode was how the cat world and human world kept crossing over. Although it’s portrayed as two separate worlds, it still rolls into one overall story. Even though Sora mentioned at the start that she should never interfere with the world of cats, it does show that her and the people around her do play a role in their story. Right now, if Aria made another cat focused episode, I don’t think they could top this, but I do hope we get to see another cat episode in this series. Although if Sketchbook is only slated for 13 episodes, I don’t think we’ll see another one.

I hope we do see another cat episode, one of the best episodes so far from Sketchbook in my opinion. All of the honorifics was interesting to hear in an anime that seemed like it would never heavily use honorifics. I really like Haa-san, very kawaii.

AS: Honorifics is used quite often in Sketchbook from what I have seen so far. But seeing it used amongst the cats is definitely different.

totali: I like Haa-san as well.
