Clannad – 04

This episode was definitely packed with humour, probably moreso than the previous three episodes so far, but I think that is all thanks to Sunohara. All his attempts at trying to defeat Tomoyo are just fun to watch, and not to mention Tomoya making a fool out of him by giving him advice, but the best thing about this episode with Sunohara was seeing him getting kicked back by Tomoya. Plus Tomoyo’s hit counter has broken the 1000 mark. Other hilarious moments was the rooftop “confession” and Tomoya sticking the straw up Fuuko’s nose.

Impressions

But humour aside, we got some development out of it all, and it appears we will be going down Fuuko’s route first. We find the reason of why she is making those wooden stars, and we also hear that her sister’s fiancé is Yuusuke, the electrician that we saw last episode. But the most intriguing part is whether Fuuko is a ghost or not. This kind of reminds me of Ayu from Kanon minus the “uguu’s” and taiyaki, but the fact that Nagisa knows about Fuuko’s sister and the car accident doesn’t add up. At this point I’m willing to believe that Fuuko isn’t a ghost until we see more development on her side of things.

Tomoyo also got some development this episode, with her mention of the student council president election coming up. I’m getting the impression that she wants to go for candidacy as she also mentions that she was hoping to change herself by enrolling in their school. But I think we won’t see too much on Tomoyo’s story this early. Kotomi finally gets a little more screen time as well. I found it rather strange how she responded to “Kotomi-chan”, and how she moved to face towards Tomoya was rather cute. Though I do get the impression that she a little childish in the way that she speaks and acts. Originally I didn’t have much interest in Kotomi’s story, but I do slightly as I think that the way she acts has something to do with her story, but we’ll find out later.

The series gets better with each episode, but now that we’re finally getting to some story, it might start taking a different direction. But still, a little humour now and then won’t hurt and it’ll be interesting to see how the girls stories will blend together.
