Every slice of life anime must have a Summer Festival, and Sketchbook is no exception. However they’ve also added in Sora’s little brother Ao, and we see most of this episode from his perspective. I find it rather amusing that Ao was the more reliable one when it came to cooking as it’s usually the other way around. But you have to love Sora in how she finds that little bit of happiness in everything. Though I don’t understand why she was pretending to play the game with Ao.

Impressions
Seeing Sora spin Natsumi out of her yukata brings back many memories. I did that to a friend of mine when we were in Japan. Although it does work just as good as it does in anime, but it’s still fun. Kind of makes me want to do it again. But also watching this episode also makes me want to attend a summer festival in Japan. Perhaps next year I will. Animation of the festival was done extremely well especially with all the vibrant colours used and the fireworks were great as well.
Sora took along her sketchbook, but me, I would take a camera. But of course each person has their thing but I found it really funny how Sora was trying to draw the fireworks and kept switching between happy and sad. Ao thought that was pretty silly, but he also comes to realise that’s just how his sister is. We also come to understand this via how this episode was played out, starting from Ao’s perspective from home, then from Sora’s perspective throughout the festival, and then back to Ao at the very end.
Next episode appears to be just Sora, Nagisa, Kusugano-sensei. I think it’ll be interesting to see this group together as Sora is usually the quiet type, and Nagisa is the energetic type, and the same with Kusugano.
