With Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei ending last season, I can see SHAFT has decided to go the same route with the different style of visuals for ef. I can certainly say that animation of the skies and the random colours definitely looked amazing. It’s almost like watching something Shinkai Makoto made himself. Though it does make me think how ef would turn out if SHAFT didn’t go for this kind of style? The game itself uses a lot of dark colours, and with the artistic elements added to the anime, it makes it much more interesting.

Impressions
But of course, this artistic addition may just be to divert from the actual story. That is to say that this episode had a lot of dialogue going on between Renji and Chihiro. Usually I don’t mind the still shots whilst talking, but for the second half of the episode, it probably did it a bit too much, making this episode feel longer than what it would normally be like. But it also brings to question why Renji and Chihiro are getting so much development now, though most of the story is covering a lot of things that happened in the first episode. At first Iw as wondering why Chihiro kept questioning about Renji, but it made sense when she reveals her memory disorder. A surprising twist indeed, but it also shows meaning to the show’s title “a tale of memories”.
Still, I’m trying to see the link between Chihiro and Kei, but more importantly why are they not together as a family. Though Chihiro’s memory disorder is the clue here, but I don’t think we’ll see too much being developed on this as it seems we’ll be seeing the separate stories of Chihiro x Renji, and Hiro x Miyako x Kei. I just hope they start developing on Hiro and Miyako’s stories soon as I can see this getting really boring to watch if nothing happens. Plus there is still the story of both Yuuko and Yuu. I still want to know what roles they play in the story.

OP: “euphoric field” by Tenmon feat. ELISA
Well the OP is a little different to what I thought it would be, but I’m definitely liking it. The OP sequence again we see the use of random colours, but I find it interesting how it shows a lot of things breaking or crumbling away, as if to give an impression of things going to break down later in the series.
