Opening Sequence:

OP: “Megumeru ~cuckool mix 2007~” by eufonius

Since I didn’t get a chance to go through the Clannad Invitation DVD that was released a few weeks back, I’ve included the OP and ED here. The OP I found to be very similar to the game OP where we see a shot of each of the girls and their full name. I like how Megumeru works in a short version as opposed to Kanon’s Last Regrets.

Impressions

This is truly THE most anticipated anime series for me this season, and it ranked highest on the poll. I’m somewhat sadden that I couldn’t watch this any earlier due to being busy and all, but I can cry tears of joy that it has finally started. Personally, I have played the game but only to stop short since my Japanese skills were lacking quite a lot back then, so I do know what to expect for the first few episodes, but after that, it’s all new to me. But with this being the first episode, we’re introduced to a decent amount of characters already due to the fast pacing of the episode. I find it a little awkward that it’s rushing through quite fast given that the game itself is quite long, but this is simply introductions so all is forgiven.

The start of the episode was done wonderfully with the monochrome effect moving into colours as you can feel Nagisa’s uneasiness, but then it’s overcomed by Tomoya’s words to Nagisa about finding new happiness and new fun things. KyoAni sure know how to work in the dramatic effects. Animation wise there is not much to talk about, we’re seeing the same quality as we did in Kanon and Air, however since Clannad is spanning over different seasons, we’ll get to see it all in one package.

The lineup of seiyuu’s is indeed an impressive one with some well established and well known seiyuu’s. All the seiyuu’s have done a wonderful job portraying their characters. But of course we’re still yet to see Fuuko and Kotomi, but they’ll appear in the second episode. Kyou’s entrance was just awesome, my “girl’s with long purple hair radar” went off the charts once she came in and I already want to see more Kyou. For me, Kyou is my favourite girl out of them all followed by Tomoyo, and she was just as awesome.

If there’s one thing that I like about Clannad over Kanon so far is Tomoya and Youhei. The two of them together bring a different feel to the series and doesn’t make it harem-central. Don’t get me wrong, Tomoya will still have his harem, but the pair of them bring in a different atmosphere to the show. We do have the same with Yuuichi and Jun, but Jun wasn’t always around. Also with these two around, it’s what makes the episode progress at such a quick rate.

Even with all the character introductions, we’re already seeing bits and pieces of Tomoya and Nagisa’s story. Tomoya and his drunken father will be an interesting factor as it alone is almost like a stand alone arc, unlike Yuuichi’s and Yukito’s stories. Clannad being the theme of family is already being portrayed with Nagisa and her family. I found it pretty amusing the names that Sanae and Akio came up with as that adds in to the whole family togetherness theme. Comparing to Tomoya and his father, it’ll be nice to see how they will combine their stories together.

Overall Clannad has so far met my impressions. But really, there weren’t many impressions at all since we all know KyoAni will make this a spectacular series, and possibly better than Kanon or even Air. Hopefully I can keep up to date on this but I think I’ll be able to once I get through all the new season shows and weed out ones I don’t want to watch. Also I’m thinking of doing the same thing as I did with Kanon and post a merchandise item each week. I just hope I have enough merchandise for it! If not I can always buy more, lol.

ED: “Dango Daikazoku” by Chata

Now this was awesomely cute. I’ve heard the instrumental for this many times as I own the soundtrack, but it is very befitting of the series since Clannad is heavily focused on the theme of family. Can’t wait to get the full version of this.
