Animania Sydney 2007 - Merchandise Purchases

For those who know me, you know I can’t resist the merchandise. And for those who know me well know that I NEVER walk away from a convention empty handed. This year is no exception, but there is a slight change this year compared to previous years, and that is I have a job and I was paid on the Thursday before Animania! With a shopping list in hand plus the various randoms I find, I’m sure you’ll be surprised just as I was. hit the jump to check out the loot in detail.

A week before Animania, I sent off a list of items that I wanted Tamarket to bring along with them for me to purchase. Originally this list was going to be $1000 worth of merchandise. However Lady Luck was not on my side as some of the requested items were sold out. So the list was reduced to about $650. Keep in mind this was only Tamarket items.

Starting from the bottom of the pile, I went for a trip to Kinokuniya and got myself Aoi Nanase’s Seven Colors of the Wind and the latest Negima and Gentlemen’s Alliance volumes. The Comic Party boxset was from the Madman store. I was so hoping to find this there as I’ve wanted to buy it for a while, but at retail price, I couldn’t justify the purchase. Good thing that Madman had the price reduced that day.

Here we have ebCraft’s Tohsaka Rin, Volk’s 1/6 Prepainted Miina Resin statue, and Orchid Seed’s Fantaz Moon Eclipse.

Next up is Metamo Haruhi Figure, GSC’s Sawachika Eri, Kotobukiya’s Iriya, and Kotobukiya’s Takase Mizuki. The Iriya because she’ll be another long purple haired girl to add to my collection, and the Mizuki because Danny Choo has one, lol.

Last up is Toys Planning’s Konomiya Tamaki, Alter’s Hazuki, Yamato’s Ohno Kanako, and a Shana plushy.

There are a few things that I haven’t included such as small gashaphons, a Aria-shachou plushy that I’m missing and a few other things that are somewhere in my bags.. However this is the majority of the loot that I bought over the weekend. There was so much that I had to employ the help of a friend to help me ship this stuff to my car. So how much did the total price tag come to? Now here’s the big surprise……………………………………………………………….. a total of $1015 AU.

I bet you’re thinking how I spent so much as I spent enough for two people. Well in fact that’s how it was, I was buying for two people, lol. My dearest friend Roobar couldn’t make it to Animania this year so I did all his shopping for him. Half of the figures you see in the picture belong to him, the rest is mine. The Shana was also a surprise purchase. During Animania, I wonder around and occasionally talk to the Tama-monkeys of Tamarket, and see what else they can find for me to purchase. One of the many items they found was this Shana plushy. Thanks Tamarket! But seriously, I’m like a walking bank to these guys, lol.

But yes, I have finally hit the $1k spending mark at a convention! Though I don’t think I see this happening again anytime soon. Roobar and myself were lucky as there was a lot of old items that we missed out in the past months. But hey, with Supanova in two weeks, there may be a few more surprises. Not to mention I getpaid the Thursday before Supanova as well.

Oh btw, regarding your Comic party figure purchase. You also inspired me to buy Alter Sai’s 1/6 Fenna~sama :P although I really wanted the figure myself.

I see the Freeing Haruhi figure took out a lot of your budget. Those are way expensive!

Wow, 1k…don’t think I’ll ever spend that much lol, but we never know. I like your Shana plushie, very cool…I just bought a Kotobukiya Shana figure the other day, the 1/6 scale swimsuit version, but I don’t know what kind of background to use for taking pictures of her, maybe something with a beach setting.

“Seven Colors of the Wind” is an Aoi Nanase book.
But hell, 1000 bucks at a convention? I could never spend that much at an IRL event. :P VOLKS’ Miina resin, now that’s a good find.
Overall, how did the costs compare to the alternative of getting the items online?

Bubby: Oh you’ll find out how much I’ll spend at Supanova. You’ll see me lug around all this merchandise instead of taking photos, lol.

Sleet: Well unfortunately I can’t open it since it’s not mine. But it looks pretty nice.

Hinano: I’ve been reading it for quite a while. A friend of mine got me started and I was originally reading the scanlations, but since it got licensed, I couldn’t be bothered reading the raws.

super rats: I go more nuts simply because I know two of the major vendors personally. One of them more so and they KNOW my tastes in merchandise.

samejima & lu-k: They had quite a few there. I think I saw at least 4 of them there. When I saw her, I knew I had to buy one.

AOforever1: Nah didn’t hurt my wallet that much. My friend had given me all the money beforehand since he knew exactly how much he ordered. Also I think you’re better off getting a different Feena. The Atelier-Sai one isn’t really that good.

Hijiko: My strong BURNING PASSION draws merchandise towards me.

AS: Best thing about this Shana plushy is that she has the tsuntsun face. A nice buy since SnS2 is airing this week.

icie: Thanks for the correction. $1k is pretty easy to hit, but this was a joint effort. Roobar and myself were aiming to hit $1k. THe Miina resin I can’t comment as that doesn’t belong to me, so I can’t open it to have a look.

In memory of your lost Aria plushie, here’s a closeup of my Saber: http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g20/khardic_drunk/Figures/Animania%2007%20loot/R0013243.jpg
Quite surprised with how this photo turned out, considering my dodgy digicam. Digital zoom ftw :O

  16. 16 khardic_paladin Oct 3rd, 2007 at 12:11 pm

orz, that didn’t work…. add percent signs inbetween the Animania and the 07 and between the 07 and loot D:

  17. 17 DarkBlackWings Oct 3rd, 2007 at 2:36 pm

lol,I know how you feel by never leaving a convention empty handed,
though I could never spend that much at a convention, and you did buy the shana plushie T^T
woo~ cant wait for shakugan no shana II

@Bubby . ahh sorry, excuse my mindless assumption in Aduns previous post >.

O_O sugoi, I’m sure tamarket loved you hehe

  19. 19 Lucifel Oct 4th, 2007 at 1:17 am

psst.. your shana plush is showing off her panties… have you no shame!

  20. 20 Adun Oct 4th, 2007 at 11:14 am

Hiyuu: Wouldn’t have a clue. Best bet is just look around online.

khardic_paladin: Such a MANLY Saber, lol. Also link fixed.

DarkBlackWings: Most people would never spend that much, but that is just a result of my BURNING PASSION! Also I go by the rule “Buy Now, Regret Later”.

ron~: Indeed they do, and they’ll love me again when Supanova comes around.

Lucifel: You know you love it!

  21. 21 Hiyuu Oct 5th, 2007 at 3:04 am

    Roffles @ Lucifel ^^

They don’t ever seem to have enough “huge conventions” here in Singapore. The stores just sell normal stuff that can be bought from online shops that don’t stock special items, X(
