Animania Sydney 2007 - Sunday Cosplay Part 2

Part 2 of the cosplay photos continues on here. There are certainly some surprises in this year’s cosplays, and the groups and skits are getting better. So hit the jump to continue checking out the cosplay photos. WARNING: Picture intensive thread.

Seriously, that is the largest cosplay group I have ever seen in any of the conventions I have been to. Having talked to the Kakashi cosplayer, who is a friend of mine, he told me it was quite an effort to get everyone together like that, not to mention they got most of the characters. So I tip my hat off to these guys. And I don’t think we can see a large group like this for anything. Unless it’s Bleach, but everyone would almost look the same.

This year’s cosplay for both Saturday and Sunday were good. Though still seeing the same characters, but there were some nice unique ones out there. The Tsunaide, Jiraiya and chibi Sakura were just damn awesome. Gotta love kids who are indulging into the world of otakuism at such a young age. Next year I’m hoping to see some Lucky Star cosplayers, and if I don’t, I’ll make my good friend Roobar cosplay as Konata.

Being closer to the stage helped quite a bit, but the problem with me being so short, there are many taller people in front of me. There was this big guy with curly hair that came rushing out of nowhere and squatted in front of me. Bubby and I later on where discussing how funny people are taking photos with their phones as most of the time they don’t turn out good. I still think there should be an area for people with pro equipment to take photos from, like upstairs facing directly from the stage. Seriously the quality of photos I could take from their would sky rocket.

Alas with the use of the flash, I suffered the same problem as Saturday, but to a lesser extent. I had to keep in mind that the flash takes a few seconds to recharge to get the full flash, but sometimes I forget about that, lol. This time around the photos turned out better than Saturday as I had a better idea of what settings to use. Also I was switching between Program A/E mode and Manual mode, but still goes to show I have much to learn. Hopefully next year will be different in which I have better equipment, I’m more skilled, and the venue will have a better way to photography cosplayers.

Look forward to a post of the merchandise I bought and videos of the Karaoke Finals!

Bubby from AnimeSydney took a massive amount of photos so check out his collection here.

Cosplayers make conventions a lot of fun.

When using a flash, I recommend turning the contrast setting on your camera down. Digital sensors are sensitive to contrasty light, which is what flash units give you. It should help cut down on some of those hot spots. You can always up the contrast later in Photoshop if you like.
