Ever since sola finished airing, I was sadden. But I can still enjoy sola all over again with the DVD releases! It has been about 3 months since the release of Volume 01 but I finally got around to actually looking at what goodies come with the limited press edition. And I must say, it doesn’t disappoint me.

I won’t be going through on the quality of the DVDs etc as I haven’t actually watched it. Though I will one day, perhaps next week if I get a long weekend due to APEC. Anyway, the limited press edition of sola color I comes with some nice extras. Firstly the DVD is kept in a hardcover box with the ever so lovely Matsuri on the cover.

Upon tearing off the plastic sleeving, there is a box that contains two postcards and a mini postcard folder to keep them safe from grubby hands. What I like about these postcards is 1) they are of Matsuri and 2) it is both a Nanao Naru drawing as well as an anime drawing. The best of both worlds!

Now getting to the actual DVD, the DVD print has the same picture of Matsuri as the box cover but there is also an audio CD. This audio CD is a drama CD as well as a character single for Ishizuki Mana. Yet to listen to it as well, but I plan to. They also come with a booklet each.

A worthwhile buy for the fans of sola or even Nanao Naru’s artwork. By far this has been the best R2 DVD that I have bought due to the high quality of the goods as well as the amount of extras that come with it. My other R2 DVDs didn’t come with that many extras, such as the Kanon TV or Air TV DVDs, the Da Capo Second Season limited press releases come close, but so far sola stands on top. And all of this for only ¥5,850 through Amazon Japan. Although shipping now costs nearly half of that, I usually combine orders or order other randoms to make the shipping worthwhile. Though not that it matters much since I have a paying job.
So if you want to purchase a copy of this, you can find it over at Amazon Japan here. But for those who only want the pretty pictures, fear not as I have scanned these. But unlike my previous releases of the Kanon DVDs, I’ve taken the liberty of having these at higher resolutions. So the files will naturally be larger, but it’’s so worth it. Plus I have the bandwidth to burn! [Download ZIP] 42.8 MB
Look forward to color II and color III!

Woho thanks a lot for the pictures
Matsuri is adorable, Mamiko “Mami-Mami” Noto is a queen, and Nanao Naru-sensei is a true master … so I can only love Sola too ^^
Those japanese DVD are more and more awesome. Thinking more and more to go for buying some, instead of waiting desperately for freebies-less European releases ;_;
Great purchase, and thanks again for sharing pics!
I admit sola is awesome, but I just can’t help thinking “AIR RIPOFF!!” when I look at the Matsuri picture up there LOL She would’ve been fried under the sun in that picture too.. XD!
Everything is SOOOO gorgeous! Thx for putting up the hi-res. Absolutely loved Nanao Naru artwork.
Though I have less interest in sola
–In my opinion, the TV is not so good
I like Nanao Naru’s artwork, and thx very much for sharing pics-v-
Look forward 2 to your color II and color III XD
lu-k: These are definitely worth the purchase. But whether you are willing to swallow the price of shipping from Amazon Japan is a different matter.
CherylHew: NEVER! Matsuri is one of the best female characters for 2007 in my books. But you can’t really compare Air and sola since they are two different series.
Stripey: Wait till you see color II and color III. So much more awesome pics.
Nymeria: For me, sola is one of the best series I have seen this year and is so far standing on top. But we still have the Autumn season to look forward to so it might change.
O_O *runs away* LOL I was just meaning the pose Matsuri is in in the picture, well, where she’s spreading her arms under the sky XD;; As an AIR worshipper, I can’t help but feel that Misuzu was a big part in starting some of the “sky” themes in anime and revolutionized the pose LOL I remember tumbling from my chair when I saw Higurashi’s Matsuribayashi-hen’s CD cover :p
