SMASH! (Sydney Manga and Anime Show) 2007

Over the past few years here in Sydney Australia, we have seen Supanova, Animania, and Mini-Animania. The year is now 2007 and we have now seen the birth of a 4th convention here in Sydney, SMASH (Sydney Manga and Anime Show). Today was the launch of the new convention and being the event reporter for conventions here in Sydney, I headed down to check it out. WARNING: Picture intensive post.

Hayate no Gotoku! - 18

After a whole 17 episodes, we finally reach the beach episode. Given the usualy high amounts of fanservice in most beach episodes and the track record Hayate no Gotoku has had, I found this to be good on the eyes, but a rather bland episode. Sure there were some funny bits, but I found myself laughing at more the stupid minor things like Klaus and Tama snoring away whilst everyone is playing around or being manipulated by Schmidt.

School Days - 04

Wow, now that was rather intense between Makoto and Sekai.I was unsure if this show was going to deliver, but it hasn’t failed to disappoint me yet. Although we haven’t seen the meat of the sexual tension just yet, I can guess that we’ll be seeing something happen soon. It is a little surprising to see Sekai help Makoto out this far for “practice”, but deep down, we can see she is enjoying it. However I don’t feel too surprised that Sekai decided to go further ahead when Makoto forced her down. After such foreplay and the way she lead Makoto, we could see it happening.

A Step into the Dollfie World

Now I see myself as a bit of a regular otaku, though my room may make it seem otherwise. But of course I don’t like to keep my otakuism to just anime, manga, and figures. I like to know about other aspects that the Japanese culture has brought to many people of the western world. One particular area of otakuism (probably not the best word to use here) is the world of dollfies. Luckily for me last Sunday, my dear friend Megami of Tenshi Asylum invited me to tag along to one of the dollfie meets that she attends to get a better look at the world of dollfies.

Figure Review: Akira E Ferrari, the Crimson Rose

With a busy schedule of working and with very little time to do anything on the weekends, I still manage to find the time to go out and do some figure photography. Now with a steady income, the figures are still marching in, so hopefully I can clear this backlog soon. This time around, I present Akira E Ferrari of Himeya, from ARIA.

Doujin Work - 04

Happy over selling her first copy of her doujin, Najimi comes to terms of the downside of being a doujinshi artist, the printing fees. So what better way to pay that off than working. Or more specifically working in a neko maid cafe. Definitely something different out of Najimi’s character for her to choose to work in a neko maid cafe, but it’s a sign of how much more she is getting into the otaku world. Heck it would seem almost similar to Nagi getting “life experience” by working as a maid in Hayate no Gotoku ep 17.

Hayate no Gotoku! - 17

Somehow I knew an episode like this would eventually happen. Nagi trying to be helpful and trying to understand the working class was pretty funny. Even moreso by thinking that she is doing everything all good. But of course not doing this for a better understanding of the lower class, but in the quest to become a better mangaka.
